The Second Day of the Field Trip

"Kids, this is the second day and last night we will spend here, so to make the most of it, I will allow you guys to explore the exhibit, the gift shop, or go on the trail." Said the astronomy club supervisor. "You are to come back to me at 2:30 for lunch. If you aren't back by 2:40, we will look for you, and there will be consequences." He explained. After the directions were clear to everyone, the students went around the site to explore. Nene nervously approached Pico and asked him if he wanted to go to the gift shop with her. 

"Fine with me. I should probably go with you anyway, since we don't want what happened yesterday to happen today." He teased. Nene looked down in embarrassment and shoved Pico as he laughed. The two of them found a lot of interesting things in the gift shop. Even Nene who never liked astronomy found stuff that she wanted to buy. 

"There's probably souvenirs that we could bring back for Darnell." Nene said. After picking out keychains and mini license plates, Pico and Nene left the shop. As they were walking away from the shop, Nene suddenly had an idea. "Hey, Pico!" She said. He turned towards her. "I brought my camera. Do you want to take a picture with me?" She asked. Pico shrugged, and Nene took out her camera. 

Later

When the club met with the supervisor at 2:30, they had lunch, went to the bathroom, and then met at the campsite. Students were let go for the second time to explore the woods in groups. Pico wasn't really a nature person, but he hadn't been getting reception the whole field trip, so he went to kill time. Nene, like always, went too because he went. The day was hot, and went by very slowly so Pico and Nene were glad when nighttime finally arrived. Their supervisor had something planned for this time of the trip.

"Now, I know this isn't astrology club, but, tonight I decided it would be nice for us to lay on our sleeping bags and look at stars. Maybe say if you see any constellations and what zodiac they are." He said. "This is optional, too, so you don't have to come if you don't want." He added. For the first time in Nene's entire experience of being in the astronomy club, she decided to do something because she wanted to, and not because Pico was doing it. Nene got her sleeping bag and went to see the starry night sky. 

"It's beautiful..." She said. She was actually enjoying herself, and not because Pico was around her. "I wonder if I would have had more fun this whole trip if I wasn't worried about what Pico was doing all the time..." Nene thought. She looked over at Pico, who had eventually come out to look at the stars himself. Her reconsideration went away as soon as she saw him, and sighed, disappointed in herself. "What possessed me to like him so much?" 

"Who?" Asked the girl laying down next to her. It was Shyrell, her tent buddy (she's an FNF mod, if you didn't know.)

"Crap! Did I say that out loud?" She thought, embarrassed. She turned away from Shyrell, who she knew was still expecting an answer and said, "Nobody." 

One hour later, everyone was rolling up their sleeping bags and heading to their tents for bed. 

"Oh, hey Nene. Did you need someth-- uh..." Pico noticed Nene approaching him, but was caught off guard as she pulled him into a tight hug. "What was that for?" He asked, nervously smiling. Nene blushed and looked to the side.

"I just wanted to tell you goodnight." She said.

"Oh. Thanks." Pico said. They walked back to their tents. Pico didn't know how to feel, and Nene just felt embarrassed. She spent the entire night squealing in her pillow.
