Chapter Seventeen - Duel On Umbara

At the Sith Academy on Umbara, K'Kruhk and Eri dueled against Mordred. As the duel began, Mordred unleashed a series of brutal power strikes on the two Jedi, but K'Kruhk and Eri were able to block his attacks. Mordred focuses his attacks on Eri, but K'Kruhk steps in. 

K'Kruhk: Come to your senses, Mordred! This isn't who you are! 

Mordred: It's too late for that. You're too late!

K'Kruhk: I know I failed you, Mordred, but I won't abandon you to the Dark Side!

Mordred: Then you will die, my old master!

Mordred lashed out at K'Kruhk and attacked him with a series of power strikes. Eri attempts to aid her master, but Mordred kicks her away. K'Kruhk then presses the attack as Mordred evades his attacks. As the two clashed blades, Eri recovered from Mordred's attack. She then used the Force to lift up a piece of debris and threw it at Mordred. Mordred was able to sense it and uses his Lightsabers to slice up the debris. As K'Kruhk attempts to capitalize on this, Mordred leaps away and jumps on top of the observation platform overlooking the main chamber. 

Mordred: You'll have to do better than that, Jedi!

As Mordred taunted the two Jedi, he began to retreat. K'Kruhk and Eri jumped onto the observation platform and began chasing after Mordred. As they chased him into the narrow hallways, Mordred lunged at them and attacked them. K'Kruhk and Eri found themselves on the defensive as Mordred relentlessly battered them. During the engagement, Mordred strikes K'Kruhk in the face with the hilt of his Lightsaber and follows through by Force Pushing K'Kruhk against a wall. Mordred then throws his Lightsaber at the wall next to K'Kruhk. Mordred then grips it with the Force and attempts to kill K'Kruhk with it, but the Whiphid Jedi Master was able to avoid the attack. As the fight dragged on, they reach the observation platform overlooking the training arena. K'Kruhk and Eri then Force Push Mordred off the platform. As he falls, Mordred grips K'Kruhk and Eri with the Force and pulls them off the platform. When they all land at the training arena, they all regain their footing. 

Mordred: You're lasting longer than I thought. Perhaps you are not as weak as I imagined. 

K'Kruhk: You underestimate our resolve, Mordred. 

Mordred: Where was this resolve at Galidraan? Where was this resolve when I was all alone struggling just to survive? Seems like the famed "Jedi Resolve" is nothing more than a myth. 

As Mordred said this, Eri found herself questioning herself. The longer she fought Mordred, the more she could see herself in the fallen Jedi. She thought about what her life would've been had K'Kruhk not found her and taken her in and trained her as his apprentice. 

Eri: Mordred, I know how it feels. I endured the same terrible pain as you. Had it not been for Master K'Kruhk, I probably would've ended up like you. But because Master K'Kruhk took me in as his apprentice, I was saved. We can help you, Mordred. Please.

As Eri attempts to reach out to Mordred, there was nothing but silence. Just as it seemed that Eri's words got through, Mordred laughed. 

Mordred: The Jedi always preach about the Light. Let me tell you something, the history of the Jedi Order is filled with countless fallen Jedi. You might think K'Kruhk saved you, but you don't know anything. 

As Mordred said this, he hooked his two Lightsabers together to form a Double Bladed Lightsaber. In that moment, Mordred set his eyes on the two Jedi before him.

Mordred: Enough talk, Jedi. 

Without hesitation, Mordred lunged at K'Kruhk and Eri and attacks them. Mordred cackled as he attacked the two Jedi with ferocity. During the duel, Mordred used the Force to push Eri into a stone wall, which she struck with enough force to cause her to temporarily lose consciousness. With Eri knocked out, Mordred focused his attention on his former master. 

Mordred: This is the end for you, my master. 

As Mordred assumed a combat stance, K'Kruhk centered himself as he readied his Lightsaber. With a snarl, Mordred lunged at K'Kruhk and the two dueled. As they dueled, K'Kruhk's thoughts fell on the days where he trained Mordred as a Jedi. To battle against his own apprentice deeply saddened K'Kruhk. As the fight dragged on, fatigue began to set in on K'Kruhk as he found himself unable to keep up with Mordred's fast and aggressive fighting style. As all this happened, Eri slowly regained consciousness. As she got up, she could see Mordred beginning to gain the upper hand on K'Kruhk. Before she could do anything, Mordred struck K'Kruhk under the chin with the hilt of his Double Bladed Lightsaber, disorienting him. Mordred follows through by thrusting his Lightsaber into K'Kruhk's stomach. Eri watched in horror as Mordred dealt a mortal wound on K'Kruhk. 

Eri: NO!!

Mordred then pulled his Lightsaber out of K'Kruhk's stomach. As K'Kruhk fell to his knees, his eyes glanced over to Eri. 

K'Kruhk: Eri.....

K'Kruhk then collapsed as Eri began to tear up. Mordred took a moment to savor this moment as he turned his attention to Eri. 

Mordred: You're next, Padawan....

In that moment, Eri found herself alone against Mordred. He had dealt a mortal blow on K'Kruhk, leaving his fate unknown. Eri gripped her Lightsaber and prepared to duel against Mordred in the bowels of the Umbaran Sith Academy.
