Chapter Four - Attack On Ilum

After building her Lightsaber, Eri joins her master K'Kruhk in confronting the intruders in the sacred Jedi temple. Meanwhile, a team of mercenaries began making their way through the corridors of the temple. As they reached the passageway that led to where K'Kruhk and Eri were, the leader signals to them. 

Mercenary Leader: Remember what we're dealing with boys. Watch out for those Lightsabers. The client is paying big money for this hit.

The mercenaries prepared their blasters and slugthrowers as they breached the room. K'Kruhk and Eri activated their Lightsabers and began attacking the mercenaries. They blocked the blaster fire while using the Force to push the bullets away. 

K'Kruhk: Eri! Stay close to me!

Eri: Yes, master!

K'Kruhk and Eri held their ground against the mercenaries as they continued to open fire on them.  During the fight, Eri was pushed back the explosion of the thermal detonator. K'Kruhk rushed to Eri's side and blocked all blaster fire with his green Lightsaber. Eri soon saw a mercenary prepared to fire on K'Kruhk. 

Eri: No!

Eri threw her Lightsaber into the mercenary, impaling and killing him. As Eri retrieved her Lightsaber, a sense of guilt began to overwhelm her as she stood over the lifeless body of the mercenary. K'Kruhk soon rushed to her side. 

K'Kruhk: We must keep moving, Eri! 

Suddenly, a mercenary got a lucky shot on K'Kruhk and hits him in the shoulder. K'Kruhk retaliates by Force pushing him against the wall. Without thinking, Eri uses her Rewind power to heal K'Kruhk's wounds. As K'Kruhk's wounds healed, the Whiphid Jedi Master was in shock. K'Kruhk kept him mind on the task at hand with defending both the temple and his Padawan from the mercenaries. Eventually, they were able to take them down. The mercenary leader was the only one left standing. 

K'Kruhk: Why did you attack the temple? 

Mercenary Leader: It was just a job. 

K'Kruhk: Who hired you?

Before the mercenary could answer, he began to choke as he was lifted on the ground. K'Kruhk and Eri were in shock as the mercenary was strangled to death. As his body collapsed to the ground, K'Kruhk felt a disturbance in the Force. K'Kruhk then searched the mercenary and found a comlink. He then played a message which showed a holoprojection of a hooded stranger. 

Hooded Stranger(Holoprojection): You will find the temple on Ilum. A pair of Jedi will arrive at this time. Kill them.

In that moment, K'Kruhk and Eri were deeply troubled by this.

K'Kruhk: We need to leave now. We must alert the Council about what has transpired here. 

With that, K'Kruhk and Eri began making their way back to the Jedi Cruiser. As they did, the hooded stranger from the transmission ambushed K'Kruhk with a red Lightsaber. K'Kruhk engaged the stranger in a Lightsaber duel. 

Eri: Master!

K'Kruhk: Go! Get the ship started! 

Despite not wanting to leave her master, Eri ran inside the Jedi Cruiser while K'Kruhk dueled the stranger. As K'Kruhk dueled the stranger, Eri started up the cruiser. All the months of starship training paid off as she began piloting the cruiser towards K'Kruhk and the stranger. Meanwhile, K'Kruhk continued to duel the stranger. During the course of the fight, the stranger put K'Kruhk on the defense. Something about this stranger seemed familiar to him.

K'Kruhk: Who are you?!

The stranger remained silent as he continued to duel K'Kruhk. As K'Kruhk parried each strike, his attention soon fell on the cruiser coming towards them. K'Kruhk then uses the Force to push the stranger away. K'Kruhk then jumps on the loading ramp of the cruiser. As the stranger recovered, he watched as the Jedi Cruiser exited Ilum's atmosphere. He deactivated his red Lightsaber and holsters it in his belt. 

Hooded Stranger: Run K'Kruhk, run. You cannot hide from me. I will kill you.....

Meanwhile, K'Kruhk rushed over to Eri who was piloting the cruiser. 

Eri: Master! Are you alright?!

K'Kruhk: I am unharmed, my Padawan. 

Eri: Who was that? 

K'Kruhk: I do not know. But it seems that this attacker was trained in the Jedi arts.

In that moment, K'Kruhk was deeply troubled by the attack. Few outside the Jedi Order knew about the location of the Jedi temple on Ilum. What disturbed him more was the way the stranger fought and the fact that this stranger seemed familiar. His mind soon fell on his Padawan as he place his hand on her shoulder. 

K'Kruhk: You did well, Eri. You endured a trial few Padawans could do. Your trials in both the Gathering as well as this attack has shown me that you are more than ready to become a Jedi. 

Eri: T...thank you, Master K'Kruhk. 

K'Kruhl: But there is still much for you to learn. As your master, I will train you in the ways of the Force as my master did before me. The road will be hard, but I trust you will be able to walk that road as did the Jedi before you. But I must warn you, being a Jedi is not about power, or Lightsabers, or even skill with the Force. It is about connection. Being part of something bigger. I am stronger as part of the Jedi Order than I could ever be alone. The road lies before you, Eri. Will you walk it alone?

Eri: No, Master. As a Jedi, I am never alone.

In that moment, Eri felt pride in herself. For the first time in her life, Eri found something to believe in. She had now found her place in the Galaxy.
