Chapter Nine - A Distress Signal

After the Jedi Council granted K'Kruhk's request, he and Eri began searching for any leads on the Dark Jedi Mordred Jahl. On the Jedi Training Cruiser, K'Kruhk continued to train Eri in the ways of the Force while a Protocol Droid piloted the ship. Eri was training with a training remote droid. As K'Kruhk watched, Eri is shot in the leg by the training remote. 

K'Kruhk: Calm yourself, Eri. Let go of your conscious self. Trust your instincts. 

Eri took a moment to calm herself as she readied her Lightsaber. She closed her eyes and cleared her mind. K'Kruhk watched as Eri deflected the blaster shots. A smile soon fell on K'Kruhk's face. However, he soon saw a vision of the past of when Mordred did the same training. 

K'Kruhk(Past): Very good, Mordred. You have made excellent progress with your training. It will not be long until you are made a Jedi Knight.

Mordred(Past): You have taught me well, Master K'Kruhk. I look forward to the day where I can stand by your side as a Jedi Knight. 

K'Kruhk(Past): I have no doubt in my mind that you will become a great Jedi Knight, Mordred Jahl. 

As K'Kruhk recalled that moment in his mind, the Whiphid Jedi master wondered where it all went wrong for Mordred. He still found it hard to believe that a promising Jedi like Mordred would have fallen to the Dark Side and become an agent of evil. Back in the present, K'Kruhk watched as Eri completed her training exercise. In that moment, K'Kruhk vowed that whatever happened to Mordred would not happen to Eri. Eri could see that K'Kruhk was deep in thought. 

Eri: Master K'Kruhk?

K'Kruhk soon snapped out of his trance and turned to his Padawan. 

K'Kruhk: Apologies, Eri. I was simply lost in thought. 

Suddenly, the Protocol Droid piloting the ship alerted K'Kruhk and Eri about a distress signal. K'Kruhk and Eri made their way to the bridge where the Protocol Droid plays a holographic message. The holoprojection shows a Twi'lek man in an officer's uniform.

Twi'lek Man(Holoprojection): Can anyone hear me?! This is Levak Entis, captain of the Nova! We need immediate assistance over!

K'Kruhk: Droid, patch us through. 

Protocol Droid: At once, Master K'Kruhk. 

The Protocol Droid then patches K'Kruhk over to the Nova where he gets into contact with Levak Entis. 

K'Kruhk: This is Master K'Kruhk of the Jedi Order. What is the situation, Captain Entis?

Levak(Holoprojection): Thank the stars you got our message, Master Jedi! We were on a humanitarian mission from Supreme Chancellor Valorum when our ship was attacked by raiders. 

K'Kruhk: Where are you?

Levak(Holoprojection): We're just outside the Mandalore System! I don't know how long we can last! We need immediate assistance! The Nova can't hold out long against these raiders! 

K'Kruhk: Hold your position, Captain. We're on our way. 

As the transmission was cut, Eri turned to her master.

Eri: You think it's a trap, Master K'Kruhk?

K'Kruhk: Most likely, Eri. Mordred will do anything to lure us out into the open. We must be cautious. Knowing my old apprentice, he will no doubt be setting a trap for us. We must not underestimate Mordred. 

With that, K'Kruhk and Eri set a course for the Mandalore System to aid Captain Entis and the crew of the Nova. Meanwhile on the Nova, it is revealed the Entis was in fact not the captain. In the bridge were a squadron of Ubese bounty hunters standing before the dead bodies of the crew. Levak then contacts Mordred via comlink.

Levak: He took the bait. He's on his way. 

Mordred(Comlink): Very good, captain. Remember my orders. I want the Jedi alive. 

Levak: Try telling these Ubese that. They got some kinda blood feud against the Jedi. 

Mordred(Comlink): Such a tragedy when the Republic bombed their little world into a radioactive ball, and the Jedi did nothing to prevent it. However, they lack the conviction to truly fight the Jedi. Their hatred is barely contained. However, they know their orders as I do. If anything happens to the Jedi, then you will learn the full extent of my dissatisfaction. Am I understood?

Levak: Capy. As soon as I take down the Jedi, I'll bring them to you. Just have my credits ready when I deliver them to you. 

Mordred(Comlink): Deliver the Jedi to me and you shall be paid in full for your services. I'll be seeing you once the job is done. 

As Levak said this, the transmission was cut. After that, Levak turned to the Ubese bounty hunters. 

Levak: Gather all the bodies and eject them out the airlock. Once you're done with that, get into positions. When the Jedi get here, hold your fire. Wait for my signal. And remember that we are to take the Jedi alive. Under no circumstances are the Jedi be killed. 

As Levak made his orders clear, the Ubese bounty hunters began moving the bodies of the crew of the Nova to the ship's airlock. As they did, the Ubese bounty hunters proceeded to eject the bodies out the airlock. After that, the Ubese bounty hunters hid themselves around the ship for the arrival of the Jedi. With that, the trap had been set. Levak and the Ubese bounty hunters would lie in wait until K'Kruhk and Eri to arrive. Under strict orders from Mordred Jahl, the bounty hunters would attempt to capture K'Kruhk and Eri alive so that he may encat his onw plans for revenge against K'Kruhk.
