"Harper's ball is flying high, he's watching it, he's moving towards first base, and oh! Harper is down and it's not looking good!"
I dropped my glass of water and sprinted into the living room where the Nationals game was on.
Bryce was on the ground grabbing at his leg frantically. Trainers quickly rushed over and lifted him off of the ground, carrying him into the dugout and through the tunnel. I grabbed my cell phone and dialed my bosses number, managing to tell her I couldn't make it to work through my tears.
I got in my car and sped down the highway to Nationals Park.
When I got there, they let me in and let me go see Bryce. He was laying on a stretcher with no pants on, letting out moans as the trainers moved his leg from side to side.
"Bryce!" I couldn't help myself.
I ran over to him and hugged him hard, only to be pulled away by a trainer.
"Wrap it in ice, we'll see how it looks by the end of the game," one trainer said to the other as he pulled out a wrap.
When they were finished, Bryce and I were alone in the locker room.
"I thought you had to work," he said as he sat up so we were face to face.
I wiped the leftover tears from my cheeks and shook my head. "I called in. My boyfriend needed me."
"You've got a boyfriend? Who is he? Let me at 'em!" He joked.
I appreciated his humor, but I was still upset and he noticed.
"Hey, Sadie I'm fine. It's just a knee sprain. Hurts like hell, but I'll recover. Quit crying."
He wiped away some tears that fell as he talked. I grabbed his hand and held it to my lips, earning me a smile from him.
"Never scare me like that again?" I asked.
"Scout's honor."
