Eric & Nicole

It'd been a long night. Working until eleven at night and waiting up even later for Eric to get home after his game was a pain. To keep myself awake, I got on Twitter, surprised to see rumors of Eric being traded to the Rockies. I quickly clicked on the tweet that brought me to an article that Eric had supposedly contributed to. I got angrier as I read on. Eric was being interviewed on his thoughts of the possible trade. He was interested, said if it actually happened, it'd be a fun experience.

I locked my phone and tried not to cry. If he was serious about getting traded, why did I have to hear about it through an article?

Not too long after I read the article, Eric walked in.

"We won!" He beamed as he kissed my cheek and sat down his bags.

I didn't respond, but instead gave him a slight nod.

"What's wrong, Nicole? You feelin' okay?" He was rustling around in the fridge.

"Why haven't you told me about Colorado?" I said, trying to keep my voice level.

He peeked around the fridge and looked at me. I shrugged my shoulders and waited for an answer. He closed the door to the fridge and walked over to where I was sitting.

"Where'd you hear about that?"

"Does it matter? You're thinking about moving across the country and don't even bother to tell me?" I wanted to cry but I didn't. Now was the time for me to be angry.

"Nicole, its not even a sure thing! They're interested in me and the Royals need a trade. I'm a contender, but I'm pretty far down the list. You don't have anything to worry about," he said, rubbing my shoulder as he spoke.

I pulled away and stood up.

"You know I go to college here. I work here. Everything I love is here. But if you leave..." I couldn't finish my sentence. I didn't want to imagine Eric living in Colorado. Without me.

He grabbed my wrist and pulled me back down beside him on the couch.

"Listen, I'm not going to Colorado. Even if I do, we'll work something out. I can promise you that. You have nothing to be afraid of. You aren't gonna lose me."

He pulled me into a hug before I could respond. I really hoped what he said would turn out to be true.
