Salvador & Liza

"Thank you for bringing me here," I told Salvador as we walked towards his mom's house.

"The love of my life needs to see where I grew up," he smiled, wrapping a strong arm around my shoulders and kissing my temple.

We came to Valencia, Venezuela, his hometown, to visit his family.

His mom had the door open by the time we walked up the driveway. She ran out and practically tackled him with a hug.

"Oh mijito I've missed you," she said, wiping stray tears from her face.

She hadn't seen him in over three years and had never met me. She turned to me and pulled me in a hug without warning.

"So you're the Liza who's been making my son happy these past few years."

"Yes ma'am. You raised a wonderful man. I'm so happy to finally meet you," I told her.

She hugged me again before grabbing mine and Salvador's hand and dragging us inside.

"Mamá, yo había algo planeado," Salvador whispered fiercely.

I was in the process of learning Spanish, but I knew I couldn't keep up with the speed at which Salvador spoke, so I zoned out.

They were soon done with speaking in hushed tones, and Salvador led me out.

We ended up in a park surrounded by vibrant flowers and towering trees.

"Valencia is one beautiful city," I said in awe as I turned my back to him and looked at the field.

"Not as beautiful as you, Liza."

I turned around only to see him down on one knee with a little box in his hand. I covered my mouth with both of my hands, not quite sure how to react. We'd been dating for more than two years, but actually being proposed to seemed so unreal.

"I haven't even said anything yet!" He laughed.

I laughed and let some tears escape. Thats when he started talking.

"You know, I came here to get my mother's approval. She is the most important woman in my life, and I needed her to love you as much as I love you. Thankfully, she does. Now that I'm sure I can do this; Liza, will you marry me?"

I nodded and lunged for him, wrapping my arms around his neck and giving him the tightest hug I could manage.
