Chapter 12

My head was propped against the window as the two went into the ranger station, my head was pounding as I held the new phone Sam bought me while we were looking for Jessica's killer. I had them both saved as my emergency contact and I tried to remember my father's number. Sam told me I should talk to him, but after meeting his new girlfriend I wanted to do the exact opposite.

She truly creeped me out and I believed her intentions with my father weren't good, how she managed to squirm her way in scared me. I closed the phone and set it down next to my thigh. I watched them both walk out with Dean holding something in his hand, they both got closer to the doors and I could finally hear their conversation "I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into before we actually walk into it?" I watched Dean stop talking and just look at Sam "what?" "Since when are you all shoot first, ask questions later, anyway?"

I watched Sam's expression harden "since now" he got into the car and didn't look back to greet me "really?" Dean's voice was muffled before he got into the car. "Is something wrong? Am I missing something?" Neither of them said anything to me and I chuckled softly "really? So it was just a sibling fight?" Dean sighed and turned to me "just stop talking" I rolled my eyes "then start speaking, the two of you have been at it since we got here.." He bit his lip and turned around before turning on the radio and starting out of the parking lot.

We made it to a house I've never seen before "where are we?" I looked out the window before getting out and stretching, my shirt lifted slightly showing a small scar on the bottom of my back, Dean's eyes glanced over my skin before biting the inside of his cheek and starting towards the door with Sam. I followed them before Dean knocked on the door and a lady opened it leaving the screen door closed "You must be Haley Collins. I'm Dean, this is Sam and this is Sylvia. we're, ah, we're rangers with the Park Service. Ranger Wilkinson sent us over. He wanted us to ask a few questions about your brother Tommy."

She glanced over the three of us "lemme see some ID" Dean pulls out one of his fake IDs and she nods before opening the screen door for us "come on in" "thanks" I watched her eyes catch sight of the impala and her eyes widened slightly "that yours?" "Nice car" Sam was looking back at the impala as she spoke. I rolled my eyes. The rest of the visit was short and the rest of the evening was spent at the bar. We sat at the table as Sam started to speak "So, Blackwater Ridge doesn't get a lot of traffic. Local campers, mostly. But still, this past April, two hikers went missing out there. They were never found." I looked around and watched the people interact.

"Any before that?" I looked over to see Sam with their dad's journal and he pulled out a newspaper clipping "Yeah, in 1982, eight different people all vanished in the same year. Authorities said it was a grizzly attack." I glanced at the newspaper before watching Sam pull out his laptop "And again in 1959 and again before that in 1936." I bit my lip and squinted and scooted closer to him as he pulled up the video he got from Hailey "Every twenty-three years, just like clockwork. Okay. Watch this. Here's a clincher. I downloaded that guy Tommy's video to the laptop. Check this out."

I watched the video of Tom as it slowed down and saw the slight shadow run past "oh oh what was that" I pointed at the screen and Dean squinted "do it again" Sam replayed the video "That's three frames. That's a fraction of a second. Whatever that thing is, it can move." Dean hit Sam on the shoulder "Told you something weird was going on." I rolled my eyes and leaned back "so what? Are we going out there?" He looked at me and so did Sam, "not yet" he closed the laptop "I got one more thing."

He handed over another newspaper clipping "In 'fifty-nine one camper survived this supposed grizzly attack. Just a kid. Barely crawled out of the woods alive." "Is there a name?" Sam nodded slowly and we glanced at each other. When it got darker we pulled up to the Shaw house and I once again had to wait in the car, I fiddled with my fingers and laid back slowly getting tired of waiting in the car. It occurred to me that Dean probably wouldn't even let me come with them to the Forest and would make me stay at a motel or something.

Dean took the keys so I couldn't steal the car and drive off. I let my head fall back before hopping into the front seat and going through the glove compartment, the different types of IDs and wallets intrigued me and I sighed heavily and watched as they made their way back out to the car. We headed to a motel and they only had one room left which bothered me, before I got to have my own room, but now I have to share with these two. Normally I wouldn't mind, but since they've been bickering a bit I was a little cautious.

They had given me enough time to shower before we headed out again "Spirits and demons don't have to unlock doors. If they want inside, they just go through the walls." I walked behind the two of them "I doubt it's a spirit" "So it's probably something else, something corporeal" I chuckled at his word choice and Dean smirked "Corporeal? Excuse me, professor." Sam rolled his eyes "Shut up. So what do you think?" I didn't quite know the details of the case considering I'd been in the car for most of it. "The claws, the speed that it moves...could be a skinwalker, maybe a black dog. Whatever we're talking about, we're talking about a creature, and it's corporeal. Which means we can kill it."
