Chapter 1
I ran as fast as I could,
the feeling of dirt slipping in-between the cracks of my toes. My dress clung to my chest by the sweat that glistened against my skin as the sun threatened to burn my flesh. I was out of breath as my feet hit the forest floor. Tears streaming down my cheeks as I picked up my pace. My feet stung from the rocks and sticks I ran across.I reached a long and narrow road just outside of Jericho, I noticed the cars driving down and I desperately tried to get them to stop "please help me!" I cried out to the cars frantically as none of them stopped for me. I probably looked like a drug addict or a helpless soul, but I needed to get away from that place I once called home.
I stood in the middle of the road with my hands running down my face before turning around to see a car stopping right in front of me, two men sitting in the front seats with a shocked and terrified look on their faces. The make and model of the car seemed to be a 1967 Chevy Impala. I could've cried and fell to my knees at this point, but I couldn't move from my spot, I was frozen.
The man on the driver's side got out and closed his door slowly "are you alright ma'am?" The Midwestern accent standing out with his deep voice caught my attention and I shook my head slowly "I..I need a ride..to..to town" I bit my lip hearing how small I sounded. He walked towards me slowly before the other man got out of his car.
The other man was a lot taller than the driver and he seemed to be a bit more understanding "my name is Sam and this my brother Dean" the taller one pointed to the driver and I nodded "may we ask why you need help" Sam got closer and his eyes seemed to take all of me in, I noticed the way his hair fell onto his forehead and he reminded me a lot of my older brother, Andrew.
I shivered under his gaze and looked down at my dirty toes "I have to get away from here..just please help me" I started to cry before arms softly held onto my own "I'll help you just get into the car and you can explain to us what's going on while we drive" from his voice I could tell it was Sam and so I agreed, looking up I met dean's eyes and he nodded softly before getting back into the driver's seat.
Sam slipped off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders, I appreciated the gesture and I felt bad for intruding so I let it stay on me. He walked me to the passenger's side and let me slide in the back before closing the door and getting in himself. Dean glanced at me through the rearview mirror and gave me a tight-lipped smile, I gave him a similar smile and wiped off my wet cheeks, probably smearing dirt on my skin.
The car started and Dean spoke up as AC/DC's back in black played lowly on the radio "so uh..what's your name" I bit my lip before speaking up softly "o-oh..I'm Sylvia" "Sylvia that's a pretty name" my cheeks turned a soft crimson from Sam's comment and I nodded "thank you, it was my grandmother's middle name" Dean glanced over at Sam and the two seemed to have an argument with their eyes before Dean spoke up again.
"So do you know anything about the disappearances in this town?" My eyes widened slightly "oh uh..not much..my brother was the most recent one" I felt them grow glossy and I looked out the window, wiping them away quickly "Andrew Carey?" Sam spoke up from in front of me and I mumbled a soft 'yeah'. The conversation ended and Dean turned the music up. I closed my eyes and listened to it intently.
