Chapter 7

We took the bus to Joseph's neighborhood and ended up in front of his home. Sam knocked on his door and we waited for him to open it. The older man opened it and Sam spoke so I didn't have to "Hi. Are you Joseph Welch?" "Yeah" I glanced at Sam when the man spoke and watched for his reaction. He led us down the driveway as Sam asked him about John, Sam showed him the photo I caught him looking at before we left the motel room.

"Yeah he was older, but that's him" he gave Sam back the picture before looking at us "he came by three or four days ago. Said he was a reporter" I raised my eyebrows at this and judging from the look on Sam's face he was glad they were in the right place. "That's right we're working on the same story" he pointed to me "she said she'd help out" I waved slightly "ah you're Gerald's daughter" I nodded slowly and felt very tense, Sam noticed and rubbed my back "well I don't know what kinda story you're working on. The questions he asked?"

My eyes widened slightly and I looked at Sam before looking back to Joseph "about Constance?" my voice was soft, but audible "he asked me where she was buried" "and where is that again?" Sam licked his bottom lip "what I gotta go through this twice?" I grimaced slightly "it's just fact-checking Joseph, if you don't mind?" I rubbed his arm softly "In a plot. Behind my old place over on Breckenridge" "and why did you move?" I removed my hand and slowed my pace down.

"I'm not gonna live in the house where my children died" I looked down at my shoes while we walked and frowned softly. Sam stopped walking and I hit his back softly, Joseph stopping as well. "Mr. Welch, did you ever marry again?" I looked up to watch his reaction knowing where Sam was going with this "No way. Constance, she was the love of my life. Prettiest woman I ever known" I bit my lip as he responded to Sam. "So you had a happy marriage?"

I opened my mouth to say something but Joseph interrupted me "definitely" I scowled softly knowing something was off "well, that should do it. Thanks for your time" I looked at Sam with an unbelievable look as we walked to the impala "sam, w-" he looked down at me and turned around as Joseph walked away "Mr. Welch, did you ever hear of a woman in white?" I closed my mouth and watched Joseph's eyes widen "a what?" "A woman in white. Or sometimes weeping woman?"

He looked at Sam and tilted his head to me, I looked at him "it's a ghost story, really more of a phenomenon" he still seemed confused and Sam stepped closer to him "Um, they're spirits. They've been sighted for hundreds of years, dozens of places, in Hawaii, Mexico, lately Arizona, Indiana. All these are different women" I looked at him and waited for him to get to the point "you understand. But all share the same story"

Joseph shook his head and scoffed "I don't care much for nonsense" he started to walk away and I motioned with my head for Sam and I to follow, he obliged "See, when they were alive, their husbands were unfaithful to them" that seemed to get Joseph's attention and he stopped walking so Sam continued "And these women, basically suffering from temporary insanity, murdered their children" he turned around to look at the both of us, seemingly pissed off "Then once they realized what they had done, they took their own lives. So now their spirits are cursed, walking back roads, waterways. And if they find an unfaithful man, they kill him. And that man is never seen again."

He seemed to be in disbelief after hearing Sam's words and I grabbed onto the younger Winchester's arm subconsciously "You think...you think that has something to do with...Constance? You smartass!" I winced slightly and Sam smirked softly "you tell me" I shook my head slightly "Sam.." "I mean, maybe...maybe I made some mistakes. But no matter what I did, Constance, she never would have killed her own children. Now, you get the hell out of here! And you don't come back! Both of you or I'll call the cops!"

He turned away and walked off, Sam sighed and I glared up at him "what the hell was that?" He shrugged "he told me everything I needed to know" I bit my lip "let's just go catch up with Dean"
