Ranboo sat on the edge of his bed staring at the small slip of paper in his hands.

It read,

My dearest Ranboo,
I felt like you should know before hand, but, I have enlisted myself in the war, I will arrive at your kingdom via boat with the rest of my father's troops.
-Wilbur

The message was so short, and so simply put. Wilbur was joining the war, so what? Plenty of people were joining the war.

But Wilbur....

The walls seemed to close in, trapping Ranboo in his spot.

He stared ahead at nothing.

What if something happened to Wilbur?

Did King Philza know? Did he approve?

Ranboo squeezed his eyes shut, he knew no matter what, he would blame himself for every death, but, it would be easier to move on if he didn't know the soldiers names, as selfish and cruel as that sounded, it was true.

If something happened to Prince Wilbur, Ranboo would never be able to forgive himself.

He sighed and flopped backwards on the bed.

No use worrying about things now, he had a long day tomorrow and might as well get some rest.

Ranboo closed his eyes and didn't bother to pull the covers over his body.

He fell into a dreamless sleep.

The following morning went by quickly, Ranboo had helped his mother with military signups and recruiting.

In just three hours, thousands of civilians had enrolled in the army. He hadn't mentioned anything to his mother about Wilbur, she wasn't in a mood to talk anyway's .

After signups closed for the day Ranboo left Techno, his second in command, to the first day of training.

He and his mother then closed down the palace for the day in anticipation of the Badland's leader, Darryl's arrival.

Ranboo looked over at his mother "I'll get the door." He said rather quietly.

The queen nodded briefly and Ranboo opened the door, he was greeter by the sight of a tall dark skinned person, no demon, standing a few feet away fron him.

The dark skinned creature wore a dark grey hoodie with a red brim, and combat boots that rose to his calf. Ranboo gave a weak smile, he hadn't expected the Badland's leader to be so menacing.

"H-hello." He said gesturing for Darryl to step inside "Please, come in."

Darryl flashed a smile back "Thanks!" He said in a surprisingly friendly voice. Ranboo closed the door and Darryl greeted his mother with a hug.

Ranboo stood awkwardly to the side as the two adults exchanged friendly conversation.

Ranboo was jerked out of his daze by his mother's hand on his shoulder "Ranboo, do you remember Darryl?" She asked.

Ranboo shook his head slightly "No..." He whispered shyly.

"Well, last you saw him, you were but a toddler." She patted his head "Fancy a cuppa?"

Ranboo nodded "That would be nice." He said salt the same time as Darryl responded "Yes please."

Ranboo's mom nodded "I'll be right back." She said before turning around and making her way to the kitchen.
