"Tell you what, you come outa here, and I'll answer all your questions. Deal?" He stood and reached out his hand. I ignored it, pushing myself up and cringing when my elbow flared in pain.
"Hey, are you okay?" The boy, Newt, asked.
   "Yeah."
He pulled himself out of the cage as if he has done it a lot. I tried to pull myself up but eventually had to take Newt's hand. He pulled me up and I looked around.
I didn't know any of it. I saw walls around a very green and sunny looking area. There were goats and a cow, a couple wooden buildings here and there, but what caught my interest was the big concrete doors that opened the giant walls.
"Ain't she a pretty one, Winston?" I turned and saw group of boys of about forty, all teenagers, all boys, all staring at me.
I started when something brushed my hand, but saw that it was only Newt's hand brushing by me as he turned to the dark skinned boy. I took a step sideways so that I wasn't so close to him, but moved back because one of the boys to my side was smiling at me—not the friendliest kind either.
"What does this mean, Alby?" I brought my attention back to Newt.
"How the shuck would I know?" The other boy said.
"Well it can't be anything good," another boy pushed his way up beside Alby.
Newt rolled his eyes and Alby looked crossly at the new boy.
"Everything new can't be anything good with you," Alby said.
Newt glanced at me. "This is Gally," he said. "Don't let the shank bother you, all right? His bark's worse than his bite."
I didn't reply; my attention had shifted to the giant doors where two boys were coming in. They saw us all gathered here and ran over.
Once they were nearly to us, one of them—he looked to be Asian or something?—stopped abruptly. Newt, Gally, and Alby turned to him.
"Uhhh, a girl?" The boy asked, confused. The other came to a stop next to him. He was taller than the other, with dark hair.
"What the. . ." He trailed off, staring at me.
"This is the new Greenie," Alby said.
"Right, and I just found a way outa the maze!" The shorter one said.
"This is Minho," Newt gestured to the first one who ran up. "And this is Thomas, our last Greenie."
I wasn't listening; I looked at Minho and asked, "Did you say 'Maze'?"
