"Ben?" He was a Runner—one of the few Gladers I knew the names to.
He looked weird. His skin was pale and he had a crazy look in his eyes. Wasn't he supposed to be running—
He tackled me to the ground. I screamed and tried to push him off but he was too heavy.
He was reaching for my face, scratching my neck.
"Help!!" I screamed.
I reached for a rock and slammed it against Ben's head. He rolled off me in shock and I scrambled away on my hands and knees.
He recovered quickly and grabbed one of my ankles. I turned over and punched him in the nose but he didn't seem to notice. He had a small dagger in one hand and he lunged forward. I pushed myself backward but the knife sunk in right beneath my already hurt elbow. I shrieked and fell backwards.
