She stared up at Newt with terrified eyes.
I couldn't believe it. Another girl! I wouldn't have to be the only girl anymore!
I jumped into the box and crouched at Newt's feet, beside the girl.
She had dark brown hair and green eyes and was very beautiful.

"Hey, it's okay," I told her. "I know what your thinking and feeling, because a few days ago I woke up here just like you."

"Where am I?" She asked.

"It's called the Glade. We all woke up in here just like you with no memory of anything before—our age, our name—"

"Teresa, and I'm seventeen," she interrupted me.
Interesting.
Newt and I exchanged a look.

"Okay. Do you wanna come outa here?" I asked her. She nodded and stood up. Newt offered his hand to her and she took it and pulled her out of the box. I tried not to be jealous. Newt was just being the kind boy he was.

"So many boys," Teresa said, looking around. The Gladers were whispering to each other and glancing at Teresa.

"Don't worry, they won't do anything to you." Newt was glaring at the Gladers as he spoke.

"Hey, I'm still here and fine. Nothing to worry about," I said cheerfully.
Newt explained some things and introduced Teresa to Chuck, who then took her to where she would sleep—between Minho and Gally. Poor Teresa. Poor Gally.

Our thoughts of escaping through the Griever hole quieted down for a while, though they were still there.
For the next few days we let Teresa explore and try the different jobs. Today she was working in the gardens, and since the Runners still couldn't run, I worked there, too. And I was annoyed with Teresa. The whole time she worked she talked to Newt, flirting a few times, but he didn't seem to notice. He just answered her questions and said an occasional "Hm" or "Mhm".

"Hey, Terra! Wait up!"
I was climbing up the ladder to the treehouse, Thomas following. I didn't stop.
When I reached the top I climbed into the treehouse and sat with my legs hanging over the edge. From up here I could see the barn, homestead, and the gardens. The Maze doors were the wall across from the treehouse.
Thomas sat next to me, hanging his legs over the edge as well.

"Sucks not being able to run," he said as we both stared at into the Maze.

"Yeah," I replied.

"Can I join you guys up there?" Minho's voice drifted up to us. We looked down and saw him at the foot of the ladder.

"Yeah, come on up ya shank!" Thomas called down.

"This should be the Runner's hangout for when we can't run," Minho said.
When Minho was up and sitting on my other side, I noticed Thomas watching Teresa as she stood beside Newt, who was talking to Jack—the Keeper of the gardeners.
Minho noticed as well and laughed.
"Thomas you're such a slinthead!" He put a hand on Thomas's shoulder.

"What?" Thomas's eyes went from Minho to me and back again; I was smiling.

"Shank, you're not that good at hiding things—never were," Minho said.

"Oh, you think I—"

"Oh, we know, Thomas," I giggled.

"Whatever, shuckface," Thomas muttered. "It doesn't matter anyway. It's obvious she's got her heart set on someone else."
I hated Thomas for saying that—thinking that.

"Yeah, she doesn't hide it at all. But that's probably because Newt won't take the hint—I mean he's oblivious to her!" Minho laughed.

*Minho's POV*

It was hilarious! That girl—Teresa—followed Newt everywhere. And poor Thomas. He has had the hots for that girl since she came up in the box.
She's pretty, but not my type. She's too serious and quiet.
Terra is definitely prettier, could be my type, but I'm not sure it'd work out.
Besides, I wasn't going to betray my friend.
The night before I took Terra into the Maze, when Terra was eating dinner, Newt and I decided to go to bed early. Gally was out making sure no one was breaking the rules.

"Terra's arm will be okay," I had said. I was laying on my blankets and Newt was sitting against the wall. He just nodded, staring at the opposite wall.

I sighed. "I know what you're thinking. I shouldn't have said anything about you being a Runner."

"No, you shouldn't have," he'd said. "But it's over. Forget about it." He paused. "I want you to take her into the Maze tomorrow."

I stared at him. "What?"

"I said I want you to take Terra into the bloody Maze tomorrow."

"But I thought... alright. Whatever you say, boss."

"Thanks, mate." Newt replied, his expression blank.

Then Gally had walked in, shortly followed by Terra.

So how would I betray my friend? By taking Terra from him.
He didn't straight up tell me, but I can tell he's in love with her. And I'm pretty sure she feels the same about him.
Like right now, she's glaring down at Teresa as the girl said something that made Newt smile. I kinda wanted to punch Teresa for hurting my friend, but at the same time I wanted to kill Newt for not noticing anything.

"Those two do look adorable together though," Thomas said. Slinthead. I wanted to punch him too.
But instead, I reached behind Terra and pinched Thomas's arm.

"What was that for?" He screeched. What a baby.

"I don't think they do," I said.
Terra and Newt,
Sitting in a tree,
K-I-S-S-I-N-G,

"In fact, seeing Terra beside Newt always brings a smile to my face!" I watched for her reaction.
She looked at me in confusion.

First comes love,
Second comes marriage,
Third comes the baby and the baby carriage,
I ignored the question in her eyes and climbed down from the treehouse.
Terra would have to figure it out herself. It wont take long—unless that Teresa chic somehow convinces her otherwise.
It's quite obvious that Newt's got the hots for Terra—it's quite hilarious actually, how obvious it is.
Oh well. They'd find each other sooner or later.
My thoughts went to the Griever hole and escaping. We had to get out of this place.
    Soon.
