17 - Dangos

"You're an embarrassment to our village." The redhead said. There was something about him, I sensed something dark, evil inside him that scared me. This feeling, this anxiety, I've only ever felt this before and that was for when I first met Naruto. Although Naruto's cheery personality helped me get over this fear with ease. What about this guy...Is it him? Or is it something else?

This feeling made me scared, it made me remember my childhood, the scarred parts atleast. Me and him locked eyes, his glare was intensifying but I didn't back down. I could tell the hatred in his eyes, but it was filled with something else, pain.

"Losing control in a fight how pathetic," he said turning to the guy called Kankuro. "Why do you think we came to the Leaf Village?" I looked towards Kankuro and noticed that he was sweating. He's scared, I concluded.

"Listen Gaara they started it and-" Kankuro started but he was interrupted by 'Gaara' himself.
"Shut up, or I'll kill you." What? Is he serious?

The two started apologising to him while Gaara ignored them and apologised to us, by us I mean me and Sasuke. He then disappeared and reappeared in front of the other two.
"It looks like we got here too early but we didn't come to play around, we're leaving." He said as he and his team turned their back to us. I turned around myself to greet Konohamaru and his team. I had met him once before at the Hokage office when I was being assigned a mission. I remember him trying to 'defeat' the old man and falling face first on the ground. It was really hilarious.

"Hey wait!" Sakura said to them all of a sudden making me arch an eyebrow.
"What" Gaara asked, clearly annoyed.
"Judging by your headbands you guys are from the hidden sand village right? We may be allies but entering the other's village without permission is forbidden. State your purpose."

"They are for the Chunin exams." I shrugged.
"Chunin exams? What's that?" This question was obviously from our Naruto Uzumaki.
"If you pass this exam then you'll be ranked a Chunin, which is the next ranking after genin. Which means better missions for us." I saw his face lit up which made me smile a little.

I saw Sasuke get interested too because he jumped down next to me.
"Is there any criteria you have to fill to give the Chunin exams?" He asked.
I thought about it for a second. "I don't think so, all you gotta do is get recommended by your sensei, and don't worry I'm sure Kakashi is recommending us." I grinned at him, I honestly felt good he was talking to me again. Although in return he turned his face away from me and gave me a "Hmph". So things haven't changed much huh?

"Yes that's right, we are here for the chunin exams." The girl showed her pass and started explaining something so I zoned her out.

"What's your name?" I heard Sasuke ask all of a sudden. Didn't the other dude already reveal his name?
"Gaara of the desert. I am interested in your name too." Gaara said eyeing Sasuke.

"It's Sasuke Uchiha."
"And you?" He asked me and I gave him a smile. I saw his eyes widen for a second like his eyes were saying something like 'why would you do that?'

"Yaeko Natsume." I gave him my alias. The flinching of eyes of my teammates didn't go unnoticed by me and I am sure Gaara saw it too but he didn't say anything.

"Hey what about me? Do you want my name too?!" Naruto asked getting overhyped as always.
"Not interested, let's go." Gaara ignored him and left.

Kakashi asked to meet us the next day.

But he was late, AGAIN.

So I did the most reasonable thing I could think of, I left to get Dangos.

There I met Gai sensei with a small clone of his and two other kids. I didn't know Gai sensei knew how to make a clone, wait, that's not a clone, that's another student! Gosh I'm stupid.

"Yo." I said gaining the attention of the jonin and the genins.
"Who are you?" One of them snarled, a boy with long dark brown hair and slight lavender tint eyes, the type of eyes I've only ever seen on a Hyuga.

"Now now Neji, we don't want to be mean." A girl with two buns said and then turned to me, "I'm really sorry for his behaviour, but do we know you?" She asked. I was going to say something but I was interrupted by a man in a green jumpsuit.

"Ah! The student of my rival! It's been a long time Yaeko! What brings you here?"
"Kakashi is late again, so I thought about getting something to eat. So you gonna introduce me to them?"

"Right! This is Neji!" He said pointing to the boy with dark brown hair making the boy glare at me.
"This is Lee!" He said pointing at the mini version of himself.
"Nice to meet you my love! Since our Sensei's are rivals we are rivals too from now on!" Mini Gai exclaimed giving me a thumbs up.
"Um okay?" I reply. Weird.
"And this is Tenten!" Gai sensei said as the girl nervously waved at me.

I pity her.

"So you guys are giving the chunin exams this year too?" I ask.
"Yes they are! Why are you giving it though, aren't you already a-" anbu? Yes. But the others don't need to know that. So I quickly shut him up by shoving a dango in his face and he seemed to get the idea of what I was doing. The Neji guy started giving me a 'what is going on, who are you?' look and I tried to ignore it but it was really starting to freak me out.

"Yaeko, what are you doing here? I thought I told you guys to come see me at the training grounds." Thank god he's here. Finally on time Kakashi.
"Yes, two hours ago. I got hungry so I thought I'd stop by. Want some?" I said taking the menu in my hands. 'Let's try something new..' I mumbled looking at the dozen options in front of me.

"There's something important I wanted to discuss with the team, we're leaving, bye guys." I am sure he just wanted to tell the team that we were giving chunin exams. He waved to the others and gently held my wrist and started walking making me follow him, I pouted. "But Kakashi, dangos?" He sighs.
"I'll buy you some later, okay?" My eyes sparkled. "Really?!"
"Sure."

"Bye my love and rival! We'll meet soon!" Lee waved at me and Kakashi rose an eyebrow.
"What's that all about?" He asked as soon as we were out of their sight.
"No idea." I muttered as we both let out a laugh.
