Timeline: 2017, after Ragnarok
• • • • •After Ragnarok, Loki decided to stray away from his brother and the remains of Asgard. Instead, he found himself in upstate New York at the Avengers' facility. Tony, along with several of the other Avengers were not a huge fan of the God, but [Y/N], the second youngest Avenger at twenty, had persuaded them to let him stay on one condition: Loki couldn't use magic.
It was fairly simple to make sure he couldn't use magic. [Y/N] was another being of magic so the runes she cast only allowed her magic to work. With Wanda gone with Vision, she didn't have to worry about messing with anyone else's powers. Loki grew fond of the girl rather quickly. He tried to teach her more about her magic, but sometimes Tony or Steve became a bit overprotective of the young Avenger. As he was trying to teach her, she was teaching him about human things, most of which he didn't understand.
The one thing that continued to boggle his mind was how the human mind could be easily attracted to flashing colors and made-up stories: what the Midgards called video games. He had often seen Peter and [Y/N] yell at each other over "downed players" and "explosive blue shells", but he never found it as fascinating as the two did. Even Stark got into it with the racing game consisting of odd turtles and human characters with noses way too big. The millionaire even bought both Peter and [Y/N] Nintendo Switches (although to Loki, he had no idea what that meant).
Most of the Avengers were out of the facility for the week. [Y/N] and Loki, those without any other place to be, decided to stay. Upstate New York was rather boring, however, and there were no dangers other than themselves so they spent the time occupying themselves by other means. She sat, mindlessly controlling her petite red-cloaked character as it drove on the screen. She was in first, as per usual. Loki sat, his eyebrows knitted together in confusion as he stared at the TV.
"What is the purpose of this?" He turned to her, but her eyes were still glued onto the screen. "Do you win anything?"
"It's just for fun," She laughed, turning to the God with a smile as she finished the race. "And as far as winning things, you just get coins for vehicles and trophies if you win," She noticed how his eyes glanced down to the controller. "Do you want to try?" He hesitated before shaking his head.

03:27. It was a nightmare that had startled her awake, but a voice that prevented sleep to return. It was quiet and at first, she didn't recognize it. She stepped out of her room, hand filled with her power in case it was an intruder. Seeing the TV and the being that sat on the couch in front of it, she couldn't help but smile and her power eased.
"Watch the shell," She spoke, startling him. She watched as the red shell hit him and his character spun out of control, the character behind him speeding away in front. She glanced at his placement in the bottom left corner. Twelfth. He held one finger up and turned towards her in annoyance, his lips squeezed shut.
"I was so close to winning and you distracted me," He angrily spoke. She tried to hold back a laugh.
"Exactly how long have you been playing?" She asked, folding her arms with a smile. He turned away from her. "Uh-huh," She nodded. "And how many times have you won?"
"You put a spell on this, didn't you!" He shouted, tossing his hands around in frustration.
"I take it as zero then," She sat down next to the God and he sheepishly handed her the controller. She pushed it back to him. "You can't give up! You're a prince, even better, a God. You can win a game of Mario Kart." That seemed to flatter him.
"Then teach me. Or remove your power from it." He grinned.
"I didn't put any spell on it. I'm just that good," She smiled widely. He rolled his eyes. "A is gas, ZL is to throw, ZR is to drift, the joystick is to move. Got it?"
"I," He stared at the controller before less than confidently nodding. "Yes," She gave him a look. "What is drifting?"
She laughed. "Why don't we start you off with an easy cup as well," She easily reset the game without touching the controller. "This one should be good."
The screen lit up with a preview of the course and the God panicked, pressing one of the buttons upon the controller. "Hey, calm down, Trickster," She spoke, moving closer to him. She held her hands over the top of his to help, causing him to offer a sheepish smile. The numbers counted down and she gently tapped his finger that rested on the A button. "Hold this down, ok?"
He nodded, finding a loss of words at her touch. The race started and his cart sped off. She spoke the directions out loud and his thumb followed on the joystick. "Hey, you're in first! Not bad, Mr. Mischievous." She smiled, causing his smile to grow more.
His controller started to beep. "What's going on?" He asked, concerned. "Did I break it?"
She laughed. "No," She peered at the bottom of the TV screen. "There's a red shell. Hold down this button." She tapped his finger that held onto ZL. He did as she said and watched as the red shell crashed into the banana he held behind his cart.
"I didn't die!" He proudly exclaimed. She giggled. "Thank the Gods for your help."
"Careful, Reindeer Games," She caught his eyes glancing over to her. "Keep your eyes on the road. You've still got two laps," He nodded as if it was his mission. The beeping started again. "Another red shell, Loki," He smiled at the sound of his name, nodding. He held down the ZL button again. "Good."
The game continued rather quickly and Loki was still in first and far ahead of everyone else. It was right before the finish line when the blue shell warning began beeping at the bottom of the screen. [Y/N] glanced over at the God, but shockingly he didn't meet her eyes with confusion. He simply continued holding down the A button as he crossed the finish line. Only after did the blue shell hit him.
"I won!" He shouted, standing up quickly with excitement. He turned to the girl and shouted his excitement over again, pulling her into a tight hug. "I have finally beat those other pathetic humans thanks to you."
She giggled and hugged the God of Mischief back. "You beat a computer," She laughed, looking up at his face still in his arms. "If you really want to go up against a human though, I am right here."
He smirked down to her, only realizing then he still had his arms around her. Embarrassed, he took his arms off of her body and adjusted where he stood. "I might have to practice a little more for that."
