NOW PLAYING: LA VIE EN ROSE- ÉDITH PIAF

days prior to today you and mikasa got together and planned a date together. she took you to a small flower field for a picnic and you brought your art supplies so you could paint.

mikasa wore a short, white, flowy dress and a random flower in her hair that you picked for her. after setting up the blanket and food you both settled in.

"i think i snuck some strawberries in there last minute." you let mikasa know whilst you pulled out a sketching pencil from your canvas bag.

"...ive never had strawberries before."

"what- how. everyone's had strawberries."

"i dunno, i just never thought to try it." she shrugged

"here." you set your stuff aside and dug in the wooden basket, you opened the plastic container with the red fruit and handed her one. you grabbed one for yourself too.

"it's good, i promise." you said, biting off the end of the fruit. the girl was visibly nervous but went for it anyway. her eyes widened with excitement, realizing she had a new favorite food now.

"what do you think?"

"YUMMY." she exclaimed with her mouth full, she didn't hesitate to dig her hand in the basket to grab more.

you half smiled at the cute girl. people like her made you remember how gentle and curious humans are. back to your art, you thought about what to draw. you wanted something simple but not too simple.

your eyes wandered to the flowers in the field

can't go wrong with that

your hands started lightly running your pencil across the acrylic paper. mikasa watched you concentrate while eating her remaining strawberries.

you looked up suddenly after hearing mikasa squeal. a butterfly had landed on her nose and was visibly getting comfortable.

"woah." she giggled, trying not to move too much because she didn't want it to fly away.

how are you so perfect

"i guess it likes you a lot huh?" you smiled. it's wings slowly flapped, comfortable with the person it stood on.

"guess so, take a picture." she said. you quickly took out your phone and took a picture of this moment.

the girl took her pale hands and cupped it around her nose so she could hold the insect.

"hi there." she said in a gentle voice, she looked down in her hands "y/n, look."

you leaned over your girlfriend to see the butterfly. it was almost as beautiful as her. seconds later it flew away, you watched it flutter it's small wings into the distance.

"mikasa, how are you so perfect." you said

"me?"

"yes you."

"oh...i dunno-."

"i never thought i'd see a day like this." you said

"me either. yet here we are."

"i notice it's the things you least expect that are the greatest."

"...yeah. they are." she said, you both locked eyes. her cheeks were visibly stained with pink blush when meeting eyes with you. you put a hand on her cheek and brought her close, kissing her lips.

when you kiss me, heaven
sighs and though i close my
eyes i see la vie en rose

a feeling that was no longer foreign to you returned. a cool breeze blew through your hair, making you feel as though you were in a movie.

pulling away from her, you felt your face get hot.

"you're so beautiful." she said

"so are you." you put your head to hers, you both giggled at your intimacy. you felt her soft breath tickle your skin.

"can we run away together." she asked. she held your hand, interlocking fingers.

"and go where?"

"anywhere, i just wanna be with you."

"i wish i could, babe. i really do." you whispered

"please." she begged faintly, though it wouldn't do much.

"im sorry, love. i just can't." you said. mikasa released your hand, visibly saddened by your response. her fingers messed with the lace on the bottom of her dress while she looked down.

"but we're together now aren't we? think about what we have now." you held her hand again, trying to brighten the mood.

"yeah." she smiled

it hurt you that your happiness with mikasa would be limited to only the summer. you wanted to be with her but you had to dodge your mom and the stress of real life was soon about to hit.

"you know i wanna be with you but i just can't disappo-." you started until mikasa interrupted you with her finger over your lips

"i know. but why does it matter if everyone else is disappointed if you're happy?"

"...i don't wanna be compared to my sister, and i don't want to be seen differently."

"let me tell you something." she got closer to your face "a little different never killed anyone." she whispered

"you're special to me, i'm all you need. fuck everyone else."

"i'd be so lost without you." you leaned on her shoulder

"i know."

-

2 hours had passed and you'd finally finished your acrylic painting. you'd set it out to dry for some time and now it was done.

"i think it's dry." you said, tapping your fingers on the paint to see if any would stain your fingertips.

"let me see." mikasa reached for it. laying her eyes on it, she admired your details. she loved how even in real life you noticed the small details in everything.

"wow, this is amazing."

"thanks." you said

"paint me one day."

"that'll be an anniversary gift i say."

"bet, do you wanna get going? we've been here a while."

"im ready if you are." you stood up, dusting off your white dress before helping your girlfriend pick up your set up.

walking through the field to get back to the car you felt genuinely happy.

"oh i forgot to give you something." mikasa stopped walking and set the basket on the ground. she stood back up with a $50 bill in between her index and middle finger.

"awww hell yeah!" you cheered, snatched it quickly

"i'm a woman of my word."

"thanks bestie boo!"

"never call me that again." mikasa cringed

"not the way you called me a used condom...please-."

"what do you want me to call you."

"yours."

"...your wish is my command." she smiled

'i wanna marry this girl' mikasa thought
