Chapter 9- Anger Has to go Somewhere

Wilbur POV

As soon as Phil ran off, Wilbur felt the weight in his chest increase. It was horrible feeling that seemed to alter all of his thoughts. What if something happened to the prince? It would be his fault.

Techno and him walked back inside, sitting on the couch. Immediately Techno began reading his book while Wilbur began to bite his fingernails.

"Maybe we should-"

"No." Techno didn't even look up from his book and he didn't need to. He knew exactly what Wilbur was thinking.

"But-"

"I thought you didn't care about the kid?" Techno turned the page, running his finger along the edge of it.

Wilbur thought for a moment. It was true, he didn't care about him. Why would he? He was the cause of all their problems. So why did Wilbur feel like this?

"I don't-"

The conversation was interrupted by the door opening. They both looked up to see Phil carrying in Tommy.

"Is he okay?" Techno questioned, eyeing the boy's apparent injuries.

"He's exhausted. He needs to give himself time for his body to rest." Wilbur could feel his father's glare from a mile away.

He shifted uncomfortably, "Do you need any help? I can-"

"I think you've done quite enough Wilbur." Phil said sternly, barely sparing a glance at him.

"Look I'm-"

"Not now Wilbur. We'll talk about this later." Phil shook his head, disappearing into the guest room.

Wilbur sighed, he really messed up. Maybe he did judge the kid too quickly. Damn it! Why did he always have to be so quick to judge? Why couldn't he ever just listen for once in his life?

"Wil?"

Wilbur kept his eyes on the floor, not wanting to see the disappointment he heard in Techno's voice.

"Wilbur?" Wilbur felt a hand on his shoulder but he still refused to look up. He couldn't handle that look. It killed him, made him feel worthless. "Wilbur look at me." The brunette shook his head. "All you have to do is apologize, alright?"

"That probably won't be enough." Wilbur sighed, "Besides now the prince is always going to hate me."

"You don't know that until you apologize." Techno encouraged.

Wilbur finally nodded, knowing Techno was right. He took a step towards the room, seeing his father was still in there. He overheard them talking. Curious, he leaned towards the door, wondering what they were talking about.

"-I'm not lying to you Tommy, please don't do that again."

"He's right Phil, you don't have to pretend that you like having me here."

Wilbur felt his heart break. The kid actually believed him.

Before Phil could say anything, Wilbur pushed open the door. Immediately Phil stood up, "Wilbur what did I say?"

"I came to apologize." 

Phil's eyes widened but he stayed quiet.

"I didn't mean all that stuff I said, I was just angry. I guess I was just looking for someone to blame all our problems on. I didn't even stop to even consider your side of the story. Besides your not the queen. You aren't the one who exiled us. I'm sorry." Wilbur gave him a small smile.

Tommy stared at him for a moment, "It's okay."

"Really?" He was willing to forgive him just like that?

Tommy nodded, "Yeah. I understand why you did it, I mean I would have probably too if I was in your shoes. Anger has to go somewhere. And besides your right-"

"No, no I'm not." Wilbur interrupted him. "Don't you dare say that." Tommy looked up at him, surprise in his eyes. "All that stuff I said is the queen's fault, not yours, okay? Don't put the blame on yourself instead of that monster."

"But-"

"No buts. Part of accepting my apology is believing that everything I said was a lie, understood?" Wilbur said, staring into his blue eyes.

"Okay." Tommy whispered, but Wilbur could tell that it was going to take more than that to get his words out of his head.

But he was more than willing to help him.
