Tommy POV

The days spent with his new family were the best of his life since Ivory took the crown. He felt loved, he felt appreciated. Everyone seemed to like having him around. Though he felt like there was a boundary separating him and Techno.

Maybe it was the fact that they were opposites when it came to personality. Tommy longed for a better connection with him. Sure, Techno was protective of him, but something was missing. He still kept his distance, much to Tommy's disappointment.

Nearly everyday Techno would disappear for exactly two hours. It was like he vanished into thin air. Tommy never saw him leave or return, but he knew he was gone, since he was no where to be found. The question was where was he going?

Tommy had been ordered to stay inside, unless he was out with one of them. After nearly being stabbed earlier in the week, the three of them didn't want to take any chances. But Tommy's curiosity got the better of him and one day he found himself watching Techno like a hawk, waiting for him to leave.

Techno noticed of course, asking him, "Is something wrong Tommy? Why are you following me?"

"Where do you keep going everyday?" Tommy questioned, biting his lip.

Techno raised an eyebrow, "That doesn't concern you, Tommy. Besides, didn't we make it clear to stay here?"

"I-I know... I was just wondering, that's all." Tommy immediately backed down, nervously fidgeting with his hands.

Techno's hard stare softened, knowing he was being too hard. "That's alright Tommy, I get it." Tommy looked up slowly, surprised to see Techno smiling warmly. "Just don't let your curiosity get you into trouble, alright?"

"Okay." Tommy agreed. Techno ruffled his hair, before leaving through the front door.

Tommy thought for a moment, watching him walk away. Would they notice he was gone? Maybe he could just take a small peek... that wouldn't hurt, right?

In the end his curiosity won, forcing him to follow the older man. Much  to his surprise, they were not going into town. Instead Tommy found himself deeper and deeper into the forest.

Suddenly Techno came to an abrupt stop, making Tommy dive behind a tree. The blonde peeked behind the tree, his eyes widening as another man came into his line of vision.

"You actually came..." the blonde smirked.

"I'm giving you more practice for the actual duel." Techno said, unsheathing his long sword.

Dream laughed, revealing his own axe. The two began sparring, with Dream mostly attacking. They both had very different fighting styles Tommy noticed.

Dream was arrogant, cocky even, always looking to impress people. Well he did have the swiftness, his strength was lacking a bit.

Techno was a bit slower, but all his moves were previously thought out. He was always looking for a weakness as he fought, usually successful in finding one.

Tommy watched in fascination, wanting to learn so bad. Maybe Techno would teach him one day. He glanced towards the growing shadows, his eyes widening as he realized how late it had gotten.

He turned around, prepared to run back. He forgot that Techno and Dream were still there. He panicked as he stepped on a twig, making both of them look towards the sound.

Oh god, he was in trouble. He raced home, terrified by how angry Techno would be. He bit his lip, realizing that Techno would probably hate him for not listening.

He had lost his chance at ever getting closer to the older man.

He locked his bedroom door behind him, breathing heavily. What was he going to do? Sweat poured down his back, making him very uncomfortable. He slipped off his shirt, finding another in the closet.

He glanced at the mirror, which was near the back corner. Scars covered his back, stinging slightly, reminding him that they were still there. That they would always be there.

He remembered getting them. Begging, sobbing for Ivory to stop. Each whip hurting more than the last.

Gently, he ran his fingers gingerly over the worst one. It came from a knife had used to carve a word into his back. The letters were jagged, driven into his back as deep as they could go. Even after all these years, the word was still very visible, like he had gotten it yesterday.

Worthless.
