Cardboard boxes were piled on top of each other. Clay's house was almost completely packed and Clay was ecstatic.
He almost couldn't believe this was happening. He could remember many bad situations that has happened at this house and they were finally escaping.
No more looking at the kitchen and remembering what happened just recently to Clay. No more looking at holes in the wall that his father has made whenever he was pissed. No more smell of alcohol that made Clay hate drinking when he was growing up. It was all going to be okay.
George was helping them pack as best as he could. He really liked the idea of them moving too. It was away from the bad memories and it wasn't far from George's house.
Drista was packing everything for Patches and George helped her pack her room. It was actually quite enjoyable for George being close to Clay's family like this. They were really nice people and George enjoyed their company.
After George was done helping Drista, he walked into Clay's room to find that most of his things were already packed.
"Well that was fast," George said.
Clay put on a bright smile and headed towards George. "Isn't this amazing? I can't believe we're actually leaving this shitty house!"
"It really is amazing," George smiled back. The two boys stared at each other for a few seconds before they snapped out of it. George helped him pack the rest of his belongings and took some of the boxes downstairs.
Clay was laughing because George could only carry about two boxes at a time while Clay could carry at least four. George shoved him, causing him to almost drop one of the boxes. Clay laughed even harder and made his way to the kitchen where they were stacking all the boxes.
Clay's mom came into the kitchen and said, "The U-haul truck should be here in about fifteen minutes." She was grinning from ear to ear and it made George very happy. This might not of seemed like much to other people, but this definitely meant something to them.
They now felt like they had no attachments to their father which made them feel much safer and better about themselves. That man really did some damage and they're so happy that he's finally gone.
This made Clay realize something and he was in a much better mood.
"George can I talk to you for a second?" Clay asked George and he nodded in response.
They went into Clay's room and shut the door so Clay could speak to him privately.
"I'm coming out to my mom tonight."
George's face lit up. "I'm so happy for you Clay! I know she'll be happy for you."
Clay smiled even more than he already was. He finally felt like it was okay to come out, but only to his family. He didn't want anyone else knowing yet.
He genuinely wasn't scared of coming out to his family, but he was scared of coming out to his friends. He didn't know how they would react. He knew he wasn't supposed to care but it still irks him thinking about it.
He also could never come out to his dad but he won't ever see him again if he can help it. He never wanted his dad in his life that much anyways.
Ever since Clay was a kid he didn't really like whenever his dad was around. He would always yell at him for something or yell at his mom. It made Clay really angry and he just liked it better whenever he wasn't there.
