They both missed a few days of school due to Clay being in the hospital but now was the day they both had to go back.
Neither was eager to be back at the school, not being able to spend alone time together. The two have been inseparable for the past few days.
But now they were the secret gay couple. No kissing, no flirting. Nothing to make anyone think differently about their behavior.
So that's what they did the whole first week of dating. They didn't even sit next to each other at lunch. George started to get sick of not being around his boyfriend but blew it off.
At least after school they could hang out for hours. Football season was over which meant they could just make out right after school instead of dealing with practice and games.
Kate tried her best to ignore Clay and George but still tried to brag about being with some guy that could 'treat her better than George'. Clay scoffed whenever he heard that and went back to listening to his boring teacher.
The next week came and Kate told a few more people that Clay and George were dating. Obviously Clay denied it and was sick of hearing anything from Kate's mouth.
Half of another week goes by and George is sick and tired of how embarrassed Clay was. Clay barely even looked at him at lunch, trying to let rumors fade. So whenever he got into Clay's car in the afternoon that day, he gave Clay a stern look.
"Clay, are you embarrassed of me?"
Clay shot a glance at George and then back to the road. "No, why would you ever think that?"
"You completely ignore me at school!"
"Well, it's not like I want to-"
"Then don't!"
"I have to, George. More people will think we're in a relationship."
So he was embarrassed of George. George could feel his face getting redder. He was fuming.
"So? Let them think that!"
"George, I can't. I really like you and I'm so glad to be with you, but I can't stand the rumors."
George groaned, making Clay feel guilty. Clay ultimately did feel bad but he didn't know what to do.
"You can at least talk to me. It hurts me that you can't even talk to me in school! Who cares what rumors Kate made up, nobody usually believes her anyways!"
Clay's never seen George so mad, it made Clay rethink his choices.
"I'm sorry George. I won't ignore you. I just didn't want Kate's words to get to me."
"Don't let Kate stand in the way of our relationship. Besides, who cares if people make rumors? You're about to graduate anyways."
Clay felt really bad at this point. He didn't mean for George to feel like this. Almost three weeks into dating and they start fighting. He flinched at the thought, it reminding him of his parents.
"Okay, I'm so sorry George."
"Even Nick thought we fought again," George commented. Clay had a guilty look on his face which made George soften, getting less mad.
