JULY 2017

"Kisaki ordered us to travel back, huh?" Shuuji asked as he lit the cigarette on his lips behind his hand. Once he clicked the lighter off, he tossed it to his sister across from him. She caught in her hand and lit her own cigarette between her fingers.

"Twelve years. He wants you to guide his past self and I'm going to infiltrate Toman on my own."

"That's a tall order, Sis. Even you may not know how to pull that off."

"I'll figure it out. You worry too much for me," she said and her brother scoffed with disbelief before blowing the smoke into the air.

"You've never been on your own before. At least, not for a long period of time. Hate to admit it but, we've been attached to each others' hips for as long as I can remember. I've got reason to worry," he explained and held out his hand to his sister in order to trigger their time leap into the past.

Y/n walked over to him after breathing the smoke to the side of her and it trailed behind her. She playfully pinched at his cheek before going to shake his hand in return. "Fuck you," she retorted with a light laugh and a bright flash blinded the both of them until their sight went dark.

They had no idea how much their past had differed from the one in their memories.

JULY 2005

Y/n's eyes fluttered open as she tried to take in her surroundings. She felt herself laying on a soft surface which she guessed to be a mattress and raised her hands in front of her face. Y/n gradually glanced around the unknown room and found that she couldn't recognize anything around her.

Where was Shuuji? Kisaki even?

She shot up from the bed in panic and tried to slow her breathing so she could assess the situation she was in. Y/n tried to find anything that was familiar and her eyes landed on a black jacket.

The phrases 'Toman' and 'Tokyo Manji Gang' sewed into it.

Y/n's past was different from what she remembered. It was completely off it's original timeline and somehow that realization made her smile wider than ever before. If the past could change, then didn't that mean Takemichi could actually change the future.

Not only his own but hers as well?

He could free her and her brother from Kisaki's grip on their lives. Y/n had to meet him.

However, she first had to figure out where her past self had left off. Suddenly, the door to the bedroom opened and revealed a young boy with greyish purple hair who smiled warmly upon seeing her awake.

"You're finally awake. You'd been sleep for practically the whole day after we ate breakfast and I didn't want to disturb you. How you feeling?"

Takashi Mitsuya. Y/n recognized him as the one of Toman's division captains that Kisaki  had told her about. She'd never needed to meet him in the past she remembered but it seemed that were close to one another in this present.

"I'm feeling fine, Takashi. Thanks for asking," she said politely.

Mitsuya arched a brow as he looked at Y/n. "First name basis, already?"

'Shit. Obviously not that close.' She mentally scolded herself.

"Oh, I'm sorry. A slip in words." Y/n laughed awkwardly and rubbed the nape of her neck.

'Where's Shuuji? He has to be around here somewhere with me. Maybe he knows how we got here.'

Mitsuya set some clothes on the bed next to her and placed a hand on her head. "I was able to find a cigarette box for you with a couple left but, I didn't want to hand it to you until my sisters left. He then set a roughed up box directly in her hands.

"I'm heading out tonight. I can introduce you to someone who can get you a place to stay since you're on your own."

'On my own?'

"Oh great, thanks. You're too kind," she blurted out while staring at the box in her hands.

Mitsuya grinned slightly and went to get his jacket from where it hung in his room. "I think you said that earlier."

"Did I? Well--"

She was interrupted when another boy about their age came into the room and seemed surprised when his eyes landed on Y/n. He hastily went to the close the door out of respect but, Mitsuya prevented him from closing it.

Y/n didn't really recognize him at first with his short, bright blue hair and clear scar along the edge of his lip. She nodded her head and smiled to him which made him flustered while stumbling over his words. Mitusya playfully rolled his eyes and gestured for the boy to reenter the room again.

"This is Hakkai Shiba."

Now she remembered who he was. Kisaki held him under his thumb by blackmailing him over a murder he covered up for his sister. A slight sense of guilt pulled at her since he seemed like a genuinely good person. Y/n never usually let herself get personal with people who Kisaki manipulated.

"I'm Y/n. Just Y/n." She clarified to hide her surname since they both were members of the Tokyo Manji Gang. Whether the past was different or not, Kisaki had given her an order and she intended to follow it.

"Sorry, I just didn't expect to see a girl here." Hakkai started rubbing the nape of his neck while giving a small awkward smile.

"I'm glad I got to meet you, Shiba."

"Please call me, Hakkai." He insisted and cringed a bit at the use of his surname. Y/n nodded sweetly in understanding with a close-eyed smile, making Hakkai immediately embarrassed and flustered all over again. Mitsuya cleared his throat to get their attention and pointed to his drawers for Y/n.

"We'll be waiting downstairs for you to change. You can wear some of my clothes if you want but I also washed yours and left them over there."

Mitsuya felt the need to save his friend from the conversation as he lead him out of his room and they both waved to Y/n as they left. She went to see what her clothes had been from yesterday and she couldn't prevent herself from wincing.

"There's no way I could actually wear this," Y/n muttered in disappointment but she actually felt a slight sense of familiarity from clothes that she couldn't wear anymore. At least, not at her leisure. Kisaki hated when she dressed in revealing clothing.

However, as she stared at the outfit she found that she really wanted to wear it. Just once. It reminded her of the life she had before being put on a leash by Kisaki. When the thought of 'Would he want me to wear this?' didn't always cross her mind.

Shuuji would always say that their life before was dull but, Y/n would give anything to live that boring life again.
