A MIRACLE HAD HAPPENED: the sun had come out

A MIRACLE HAD HAPPENED: the sun had come out. With that, summer had officially started with the reservation beach being packed with locals. Darcie, along with her friends, currently sit on the beach, soaking up what little sun they can.

"This is Rochelle accepting her diploma," says Darcie, showing the guys the photos from her sister's graduation a few days ago (she's beyond proud — don't get her started or she might end up in tears again). "And this — look how adorable they are — is Rochelle hugging Dad."

"Very nice," comments Embry.

"You look so small in that one," Jacob points out.

"The seniors are massive compared to you," adds Quil. "How are you going to be a junior in a couple of months?"

Darcie simply rolls her eyes. "Just because I'm small, doesn't mean I look young."

"You defiantly look sixteen," Embry defends her, blushing as he's caught staring.

"Thanks, Embry," Darcie smiles.

Darcie still has a while to go until she's seventeen, but Embry is the baby of the group with an August birthday, so he's yet to even turn sixteen. But you wouldn't think he's the youngest (if anything, Quil looks the youngest). Yet, Darcie's certain they're all going through another growth sprout with apparent muscles this time too. She can see them now with their shirts off; the three aren't as lanky as they once were or round faced babies.

"Darc, next picture?" Jacob questions.

"Right, yeah," she agrees, averting her gaze quickly from Embry.

"Hold on, hold on," Quil quickly speaks, going back to the picture of Leah and Rochelle together. His slender finger points at Sam, who stands behind the two. "Sam's looking at Rochelle."

"No, he's not," Darcie tells him as her eyes drop to the picture.

"He defiantly is," Embry agrees. "You'd think with that kind of soppy look, he'd be looking at Leah."

Darcie frowns at the picture, seeing it too: Sam appears to be melting as he stares at Rochelle.

"It's probably just the camera angle," Embry brushes it off.

"Yeah, probably," Jacob agrees, but it sounds like they're saying that just for her benefit.

"These are great, Darc," Embry changes the conversation. "How much did you cry?"

Darcie looks back down at the pictures. "Maybe a lot."

Darcie had cried a lot during the ceremony, especially when Rochelle had played her piano for the school and had then accepted her diploma. She's beyond proud of what Rochelle has achieved, even more so now with her sister achieving a scholarship for the University of Washington. Darcie's truly mesmerised by her sister, to the point where she knows letting her go to college will be too hard.
