ONE THING DARCIE'S LEARNT IS that the Fae like to dance. Darcie spends a handful of moments with Cersi and Aspen before she's being passed around, meeting numerous people. Everyone seems to adore Darcie, asking their Naila endless questions.
"Can I cut in?" Avo asks.
The Fae man bows towards the King. "Your Highness," says the Fae. "Your daughter is a natural dancer."
Avo smiles. "That's no surprise."
Then, the man leaves as the two are left staring at each other. Darcie's heart echoes, unknowing what she's supposed to say or do. Again, it feels like a betrayal to her dad to be dancing with her birth father.
Avo offers his hand. "I thought I should save you before the Court get to you so soon."
"The Court?" Darcie questions, accepting his hand.
"Varen of the Fae," says the King, bringing Darcie closer as the two start to sway with the music that humans are playing for them. "Councillor and Representative for Lissima. They are rather eager to meet you officially, especially Aevum as you can imagine."
"I don't know how much help I can be," says Darice.
"You've already helped them," Avo announces. "You've captured their hearts already. Enough of business for tonight, though. How are you settling in?"
"I still think I'm dreaming," Darcie confesses. "Everywhere I look someone is bowing towards me. I still can't believe I've seen a unicorn."
"I have not seen the mortal world myself, but you have already shown us how different the humans live to us. If there is anything I can do to help you, then please do say."
Darcie looks up, offering a smile. "Thank you."
Later, Darcie is accepting a drink from Avo, finding the liquid sweet. For a second, there's peace before a hand ruffles Darice's hair as she looks over to see Milon grinning at her. Like the King, he wears elegant robes, but a dark blue band remains on his arm.
"No tiara, Princess?" Milon questions.
"Not tonight," Darcie replies.
"Your Highness," says Milon, bowing towards the King. "Can I steal your daughter?"
Avo sighs. "Please don't raise the dead to party again."
Darcie's eyes pop wide. "Wait, what?"
"It was Jolie's birthday," Milon rolls his eyes, but he's grinning. "I'll keep the trouble to a minimum tonight. Naila will be in safe hands."
