DARCIE CAN'T STOP SMILING

DARCIE CAN'T STOP SMILING. She's still beaming as she comes downstairs the following morning, joining her father for breakfast as he raises his eyebrows at her.

"Someone's happy this morning," says Lewis. "I haven't seen you smile like that for a while, Darcie. It's nice to see. What's got you in a good mood?"

Darcie blushes, focusing on buttering her toast as she's nervous about telling her father. "Well," says Darice, ignoring his stare. "I, uh... things might have changed between Embry and I."

"Oh?" Lewis questions as Darcie looks up, seeing his amused expression. "A good change I assume?"

"A big change," Darcie tells him. "We kissed last night."

"That is a big change," Lewis agrees.

Darcie nods. "And we're together."

"Okay," says Lewis, having expected this was coming. "So Embry's your boyfriend now?"

Hearing those words for the first time causes Darcie's heart to flip, leaving her giddy. It's still a little weird — still completely new for the two, but Darcie's so happy. "Yeah," says Darcie. "And I'm his girlfriend. Is that weird?"

"Not at all, honey," Lewis reassures her. "Tiffany and I have always known this was where things were heading for you two. Does it feel weird for you?"

"No," answers Darcie. "Just different, like a good different."

"Good," Lewis smiles. "I'm happy for you, sweetheart. Embry's a good kid. I guess we better invite Tiffany and Embry over for dinner, huh?"

"At least wait a week," Darcie says, laughing, but she's relieved that her father is supportive.

"You got it," Lewis promises.

After breakfast, Darcie heads upstairs to get ready for the day. While Jacob's ditched them for Bella again, the four planned on hanging out a little later on. For now, though, Darcie has plans with Embry — her boyfriend.

"Darcie," Lewis calls upstairs. "Embry's here!"

Darcie grabs her jacket, not wasting any time as she heads downstairs, knowing what exactly is coming. Already, Lewis has his arms crossed and eyebrows raised as he studies Embry, who is too busy stroking Bruno to notice.

"So," says Lewis, trying to appear intimidating, but he's tiny in comparison to Embry, who is forever growing. "You and my daughter, huh?"

"Dad, don't," Darcie pleads, hurrying down the stairs.

Then, she pauses, eyes falling onto Embry as the two share a small smile.

"Hi," greets Darcie.

"Hi."

Lewis chuckles at the two. "Okay, I won't give Embry the talk," he reassures them, but his eyes fall on Embry again with the amusement disappearing. "I like you, Embry — you know I do — but if you hurt my Darcie, though, then they'll be hell to pay for. Understand?"
