Chapter 4 | suspect

Well, at least someone around here was rather normal. Having just been introduced to Watari, the taskforce found him a lot more normal than you and L, despite him seeming to be a parental figure to L.

He had fake IDs and belts with emergency signals in them for the taskforce, which definitely made it feel like things were getting serious. And things were definitely about to get interesting...

"So, I've got some progress" L said.

"Progress? Do we have suspects?" Matsuda asked.

"Yes. Judging from the mysterious deaths of the FBI agents we concluded it must be someone they were investigating. And not long after. The wife of Raye Penber, who had worked under me previously dies too. Suspicious don't you think?"

"Undoubtedly. So it just be someone investigated by him" Aizawa added.

"Exactly. This is the part I'm not sure you'll take well. He was investigating deputy director Kitamura... and Superintendent Yagami and their families"

Immediately there was outrage, the taskforce offended L would suspect the family of their chief, and the chief himself offended for his family even being considered suspicious.

"What? Just what are you getting at here? Are you saying the chiefs family is suspicious?" Aizawa spat angrily.

L sighed, he knew this was coming.

"It's only about 5%. But we can't take any precautions. We know the leak comes from within the police force so we investigated everyone. And it just so happens Raye was investigating two families and one ended up being the Yagami family. It's a precaution, if Kira isn't among them no one has anything to worry about" L stated, matter of factly.

You could hear the back and fourth occurring in the other room as you sat at the hotel vanity applying your classic deep red lipstick. You started wearing it so it'd stain L's skin when you kissed him and too this day you've kept the look. Going through many tubes of it in your life. He never wiped the stains off either, leaving them there all day until they'd inevitably come off taking a shower or bath.

You knew the taskforce wouldn't take the suspicions well, but you thought L was right to suspect. He'd tasked you with looking at records of the Yagami family and immediately your sixth sense for suspicious people went off.

The chief and his wife were fine, they lived a relatively normal life. It definitely wasn't their daughter, she was too busy with a big social life and an obsession with jpop boys.

But their son... Light Yagami. He fit the profile. Smart, almost too smart. Charismatic, being known at his school. Neat and strategical, always getting what he wanted.

If Kira was among the Yagami family, it'd be Light. Of course you couldn't say for sure yet, since you'd never actually seen the guy just read about him from Rayes findings. But you'd put money on it being him if it was a Yagami.

Getting up, you left the bedroom and crept out into the main room where the investigating was being done. Standing in the dark door frame you listened in.

"I can't tell you how offended I am that my family is under suspicion. But I understand all necessary precautions must be taken in this case. Do it" Mr Yagami said.

"But you have a family at home! A wife and children!" Matsuda spoke up.

"I'm well aware of that but I'd rather prove my family is innocent than have to live under suspicion. Once it's over I'll have nothing to worry about ok?"

Ah, this must be about the camera plan.

"Out of respect for your family only you and I will watch the footage. And Salem can watch the girls as it's not my place to, can't you Salem?" L said.
