A/n: this chapter is purely gothic fluff because you and L are married damnit. Married people kiss each other.

L told you that you could sleep along with the rest of the taskforce tonight, but you couldn't seem to shut your brain off.

It was rare you wore white, but your long nightie that looked like that of a haunted dolls was fitting as you paced the halls of the hotel room. Anyone who saw you from the corner of they eye might just think they found a ghost. Apparently the pitter patter of your pacing feet was loud enough to alert your husband, who leaned around the doorframe to talk to you.

"You should be asleep" he said.

"So should you" you replied.

"You know we have to watch-"

"I know. But surely you can have Watari fill in for a few hours"

That was true, but L was a bit of a workaholic when it came to cases like this. He wanted to see all the details, so he'd been up watching Light and Misa as well as Lights father for hours now.

"Can't you sleep?" He asked.

"No, I can't stop thinking about the book theory" you replied.

L thought for a moment, looking over at the screens where all three of the locked up persons were sound asleep. Surely he wouldn't miss much of all they were doing was sleeping...

"Wanna go for a walk?" He asked.

"Of course"

Midnight walks were common, something you'd done since you were kids. You grabbed your trench coat from your room and slipped on some shoes, meeting L at the hotel rooms door to step out for a while. Taking his hand, you left the temporary taskforce that was the hotel out into the night.

The streets of Tokyo were still rather alive even this late, neon signs illuminated the streets. You were much more used to the dim streetlights of foggy Winchester, but Japan was pretty as well. Walking aimlessly around the streets was enough to keep you occupied for a while in hopes you'd eventually tire out.

"As interesting as this case is, it's sucking up so much time" you sighed.

"I know. That's the downside to big cases like these. We're together every day and get never seen to have time for each other as a couple" L replied.

"If only there was a graveyard nearby, our midnight walks would feel more like home"

You loved Japan, but you did miss your dads graveyard, the winery down the road, L's orphanage, the brick roads and overgrown woods back in cold Winchester. L would admit he missed home too, this was the longest he'd been away on a case, most of the time if he went way in a case it'd last a month tops. But several had gone by and he was still here. He missed the creakily floorboards in the orphanage, seeing his successors thrive, and the house you'd bought together after you'd gotten married.

The spiral staircase, his almost library like office, your big gothic bed, the dark rococo furniture. Sometimes home was just the only thing that felt comfy.

"I promise when we move into taskforce we'll have more time together" L said.

"I know, it just feels like ages away" you replied.

"It's almost done. It won't be the same as home but at least it can look similar"

His hand was warm, thanks to you. L always had cold corpse like hands, and he'd always stick them up the back of your shirt to warm them making your squirm at the sudden cold every time. Or in cases like this, hold your warmer hands and warm his up with your body heat.

"You're warmer than usual" you said.

"Because it's just you and me. You always make me warm and fuzzy" he replied.

"Suck up"

"If I'm sucking up to anyone, I'm glad it's you"

The air as you walked the streets was chilly tonight, not much of a wind but rather frigid nonetheless. It felt nice on the exposed parts of your skin. But without a coat you wondered how L stayed so warm. His hands may be cold a lot, but his body never was. His hugs were like sitting in front of the fireplace. Warm and cosy.

His presence was just warm and cosy. But, only to you. Others always thought he was cold and standoffish. He was much softer for you and you only.

Your aimless wander has lead you to a quieter area, a large grass area that seemed to be part of a much bigger park lit by streetlights was where the path took you. It felt a little more like home here, darker and quieter.

Stopping under a streetlight, you took L's free hand in yours and looked up at him. Something you could only do when you weren't matching his height with your usual big boots.

"You think we can make walks a nightly thing? I miss this" you asked.

"I miss it too, we can squish it into the busy case work sure" he replied.

You pulled on his hands to bring him closer and wrapped your arms around each other, standing in that warm embrace for a blissful while. These small gestures, they were the true joys of marriage and love.

"Darling, know that whatever happens on this case I love you. And I'll make sure nothing harms you, anyone who dares can choke by my hand" you said, head resting on his shoulder.

"I could say the exact same thing. I promise you'll never become a target on this case, I love you too much to let anyone take you from me. I've said it before I'll say it again, you're worthy of the whole underworld" he replied.

"I'd go through Tartarus and back for you"

"I'd sell my soul to the devil for you"

"I'd die for you"

"I'd slay the worlds worst monsters for you"

It seems that yet again, you'd been sucked into a "I love you more" contest.

"Shut up and let me win" you giggled.

"No, you know I hate losing" he replied.

"Fine I'll make you shut up then"

"How wi-"

Before he could finish his sentence he found his lips pressed into yours. And in an instant he let you win, he'd never turn down a kiss from you. This really felt more like home, standing under a streetlight on your usual quiet midnight walk, wrapped up in each others arms melted into a deep kiss. All that was missing was the graveyard in the distance.

You kissed like this when you first confessed.
You kissed like this when you had those late night dates as teenagers.
You kissed like this on your wedding night.
You kissed like this in your honeymoon.

It was these kisses where you won his silence and passion that you lived for.

When it broke, he gave you the soft look only ever painted on his face by you, and you gave him that cheeky smile back.

"I win"
