Wow, Light must be annoyed 24/7 because Ryuk would NOT shut up.

All day he'd been following you around watching you work, making comments on the conversations the taskforce were having and such. He didn't know what personal space was and having to act like there was no one there was getting tiring when you just wanted to tell him to shut up for two seconds.

That, and he'd been poking L. Since L can't see him Ryuk finds it hilarious to grab his hair or shirt when no one is looking and make L jump out of his skin. How Light dealt with all this you had no idea. And the fact that this creature was a literal god of death astounded you. He acted like a bratty toddler.

And the amount of apples this man eats was enough to fill a damn orchid. As soon as an apple makes its way into the hotel it's immediately been eaten.

As annoying as this situation was, it was actually a rather good one. Now Ryuk was following you and L, you could try and get more information out of him about Kira. Or try and deduct something from him. You'd been eyeing the pouch in his belt that definitely contained the book. You knew there was no way he'd let you touch it, and if you tried to grab it he's probably just phase through you anyway.

You still had no idea what exactly the book was. A book of shadows? An instruction book? A contract? You couldn't tell when it was locked up inside that pouch.

He claimed that he was watching your for two reasons. One, he was temporarily not bound to Light anymore. You suspected that had something to do with Lights sudden change in behaviour. And two, he said you and L were 'interesting' which you weren't sure if you should be scared or flattered about. A shinigami following two humans because they're interesting? Sounds like the start of a tragic legend.

Then again, maybe he just appreciated your spooky way of life since he was literally death itself. He had compared you and L to vampires before after all...

The taskforce were lucky they couldn't see Ryuk, and didn't even know he existed. Because this was getting ridiculous. All you wanted to do was get some sleep, and you'd forced the overworked L to sleep too. But Ryuk just wouldn't leave you alone.

So you lay there in bed, L asleep with an arm and leg over you blissfully unaware of the Shinigami wandering around your room. You tried to ignore him, but all his chains made noise when he moved, he'd wander around the hotel laughing at humans doing stupid things, crunch apples way too loud.

As much of a... bro... dude? Ryuk was, he had no idea how humans worked and what was considered annoying, nor did he care.

"For fuck sakes Ryuk go away" you complained, swatting your hand in his direction, only having it go through him.

"I'm bored" he complained.

"Humans need to sleep, go watch some else for the night"

"L never sleeps"

"It's called insomnia look it up. Plus he's asleep now and if you need moving this around he'll wake up. If you're not going to leave at least be quiet, and back off a bit" you sighed.

"What is it with you lover humans and sleeping all tangled up? Isn't that uncomfortable?"

"It's called contact comfort, keeping warm and being in love. Something your kind don't know shit about"

He laughed, his laugh was loud. If L could hear him he would have woken up, thank god he couldn't.

"Actually some shinigami do fall in love. I've always thought it was stupid" Ryuk laughed.

"I'll believe it when I see it" you replied, putting the pillow over your ears to try and block him out.

Again, you heard that mischievous chuckle. He always did that when he found something entertaining.

"Why do you think Misa got her power?"

Now that, that caught your attention. You put the pillow back, slightly opening your eyes to look at the tall creature looming over you like he was a sleep paralysis demon or something.

"I bet you're not going to explain anything are you?" You said.

"Nope. Have fun with that little hint"

"You're not much help are you?"

"No I'm not" he agreed.

This dude... You rolled your eyes and put the pillow back over your ears, snuggling up to L trying to fall asleep.

"Right well you can go bug someone else now?" you said.

"I'm not doing it because you asked me to. I'm just bored of watching people sleep, I'm stealing your DS" Ryuk said, phasing through the wall into the next room.

At this point you didn't care if he was using your video game consoles if it meant you'd get some sleep. But that cheeky little shits comment was going to keep you up anyway.

'How do you think Misa got her power?'

Given the context of the conversation, it seemed to be about love.

So her shinigami was in love with her?

That was a plot twist if it was true. A god of death falling for a human and giving her their power only for the human to fawn over another human who's a total asshole? Ouch. That's a tragic unrequited love story. Somehow you hoped to maybe talk to Misas shinigami, maybe they'd be more cooperative since they're clearly not on the same page as Ryuk.

Of course there's no way for you to touch their book when you don't even know where it is, so you couldn't do anything yet.

"Stupid shinigami... god I just wanna sleep..." you sighed to yourself.

You were tired and just wanted a good nights sleep but apparently that wasn't happening tonight. But you couldn't exactly get up and do something either, L was using you as a body pillow and if you moved he'd be awaken from his fragile slumber and you really wanted him to get more sleep.

Looking down at your sleeping husband, you wrapped your arms around him, the sensation making him snuggle you in his sleep.

You didn't want anything to happen to him, you wouldn't let anything happen to him. You figure this out even if it was the last thing you did.

Pulling the blankets up some more to shield from the cool night air, in the distance you could hear Ryuk playing Mario Kart on your DS, you definitely weren't expecting that when you took this case.

That shinigami... he was weird.
