CHAPTER 9
"Anak, do you need money?" Mom asked after I told her that I'm planning to spend my whole sembreak working at a coffee shop. "I could just give you if you need one... You don't need to work. You could spend your whole sembreak studying for NMAT."
"I just want to earn for myself," I reasoned.
"Makakapag-focus ka parin ba doon?" She asked, looking at me attentively. Hindi ako naka-sagot kaya nagsalita ulit siya. "First you didn't took business management, and now you don't want to ask us for money... Gael...
"Ma, it's not about that!"
"Then, why are being like... Independent? Do you have plans on... separating?" I looked at her with the what-the-fuck-look. She laughed before shaking her head. "What? Like for an engagement ring or something."
What the hell?!
I sighed. We became quiet for minutes. I couldn't look at my mom because she's looking at me like she's reading what's on my mind. Before she could entirely make a whole theory about why I wanted to have a job, I finally opened my mouth.
"Ma..." I said and she raised both of her eyebrows. The look on her face when I called her made me shook my head. "I'm not gonna leave! Why do you look so scared?!"
She pouted and shook her head. "Ano 'yung sasabihin mo?"
I don't wanna go to med school.
I pursed my lips and shook my head. "Nothing..."
She cocked her head with a meh face. "You're not gonna make me fall asleep thinking about what you want to say..."
I laughed before standing up. "I'll just be in my room..."
I don't have my things here. I just went here to find out if we're gonna spend Christmas at our grandparents' house so I could see if I can work at Aussie. But I still haven't convinced my mom about that whole thing.
"Gael?" Napatingin ako sa pintuan nang bumukas 'yun. Mom was standing there, holding the doorknob. "You can do what you want..."
My eyes widen a little before I sat on my bed. "Talaga?"
She nodded. "Yes. Saan ba?"
"Aussie. Near my condo."
"You're really not gonna tell me why?"
I sighed. "I like someone... And she works there."
Her forehead creased. "Kaagad? Are you sure you like her?
I laughed.
"Elaine and I... We already had problems. Ano... I don't want to tell her—them about Elaine's mental problems. "I swear... You can check her instagram and you can see that she's already with someone."
