—heejin's little sister brings her babysitter upstairs after walking in on her crying.
-
Heejin stared at the messages on her phone, the device facing her on the bed as she wrapped herself up in her arms. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she continued looking at the open chat.
Every time she read over the same texts from the girl she adored most, she couldn't help but feel her heart ache.
She thought Jiwoo loved her, but apparently she was nothing but a temporary replacement. All the laughs, all the memories and promises? Kim Jiwoo broke them all at once.
Heejin hugged her legs closer, burying her head into her knees and continued to cry. She stayed in that position until she had to look up, hearing a soft knock coming from her door.
She mumbled a low, "Come in," wiping away the dried tears from her face and sniffing away the sadness away to hide her 'I just finished crying' face from the person outside her room.
"Unnie..Are you okay?" The little girl opened the door slowly, keeping her eyes on the ground until the door was fully open.
Heejin's little sister walked in with a juice box in hand. She approached the older and sat on the edge of the bed. Seeing Heejin smile weakly, she handed the drink to her.
"I heard you crying. Did you and Chuu unnie fight?" She asked curiously, her tone gentle, making sure she could avoid making Heejin more upset.
Heejin could help but smile and ruffled the younger girl's hair, "No Jieun, I'm just a little stressed.." She assured the younger yet the more she thought about the question, the more it hurt.
Jieun stared at her with worry, Heejin's quiet and short response making her feel bed. Before they both knew it, the older couldn't hold it in any longer and tears began to fall again.
The younger let out a low gasp at the sight and quickly brought her hands to Heejin's face, cupping the older's cheeks gently. She slowly began to wipe the tears away, Heejin thinking they felt so small against her face.
"It's okay unnie, don't cry.." She whispered, continuing to hold Heejin until the older let out a sad chuckle, embracing Jieun in a tight hug.
Together, they hugged until both heard the door ring, stopping them from their little emotional healing session. Jieun pulled away first and looked at Heejin, analyzing her state and deciding it would be best if she went instead. And so, she excused herself from the room, Heejin nodding in agreement.
Jieun hopped off of Heejin's bed and ran down the stairs. She approached the door and looked through the doorbell's camera monitor, seeing her babysitter standing outside with a wide grin.
She opened the door with excitement, "Yerim unnie! I'm happy to see you!" Jieun ran up to the older's open arms.
Yerim chuckled as she picked the younger up, "Aw, did you miss me that much?"
Jieun nodded with a smile but suddenly remembered her sister who was in need of attention from someone older. In a hushed voice, Jieun moved close to Yerim's ear, "Unnie, Heejin unnie is upset. She's been crying a lot today. Can you help her?"
Yerim's eyes widened. She figured that this explained why Heejin didn't open the door like usual. She looked at Jieun and nodded firmly, "I'll try my best, take me to her room hm?" Yerim placed Jieun back on the ground and offered her hand for the girl to take.
Jieun smiled and grabbed the older's hand as she led her up the stairs and to the front of Heejin's bedroom door. Jieun brought her free hand up and knocked on it once again, "Unnie, Yerim unnie is here."
After hearing a muffled confirmation to come into the room, the duo walked in, hands still tangled together.
Jieun smiled at her sister and tugged Yerim closer. Said older girl look it as her signal to ask Heejin what was wrong and comfort her.
She started, "Hi Heejin, everything okay?" Her voice was low, doing the same as Jieun previously, trying her best to not trigger any more tears from the other girl.
Yerim took note of her shaking eyes. She watched as Heejin bit her lip before glancing at Jieun. Yerim figured she must've been to scared to tell her everything with her sister in the room.
"Jieun-ah, do you mind going to play in the living room for a bit? I promise I'll treat you to ice cream if you're good." Yerim looked at the little girl and offered her the sweet treat, knowing Jieun wasn't allowed to have sugary things often.
Jieun's eyes lit up and she nodded. She walked over to the door to leave but suddenly stopped and turned around. She ran over to Heejin one more time and placed a kiss on her cheek before finally leaving, closing the door behind her quietly.
And so, Yerim found a spot on the edge of Heejin's bed. She thought for a bit, figuring out the words to say and how to word them.
"Listen Heejin, you don't have to tell me anything but at least let me comfort you the best I can." Yerim frowned as she noticed the other crying again.
She found the sight upsetting and she felt as if she couldn't do anything unless Heejin told her what was wrong, "I know you hate when Jieun sees you cry. Please Heejin, tell me if there's anything I can do."
The older looked at Yerim and opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Her throat felt dry and her head was spinning in all kinds of thoughts. Her palms felt sweaty and warm as she had a mental fight with herself, biting her lip as she continued to overthink more than she should.
Glancing at Yerim, Heejin teared up again. God, she knew how bad this was. She's never cried this much in one sitting and was beginning to believe that whatever she was going through was definitely unhealthy.
"Can..Can you hug me?" Heejin asked, voice so quiet, Yerim could barely hear the question. Regardless, she nodded and scooted closer to the older and wrapped her arms around her gently.
Heejin relaxed at the hold, arms going limp and breathing going even, no longer erratic from the thinking.
For the first time throughout the entire day, Heejin finally felt at peace in Yerim's hold. She no longer felt conflicted and her chest no longer felt heavy with suffocating thoughts.
Some time later, she fell asleep in Yerim's arms and said girl felt as if she did the right thing. Though there was little words exchanged, both knew there was no need for it if a simple embrace could make Heejin feel better.
Heejin's appreciated Yerim's efforts as she dozed off late into the night.
