—nothing is more comforting than seeing the smile of the girl you like.
-
Haseul's sitting, her feet in the water. Her hands are planted on the ground, holding her up as she leans backwards a bit.
Her eyes stay closed as she listens to the soft chirping of birds and the low humming of bugs.
The wind is blowing against her face and the sun is starting to go down.
She's surrounded by trees, finding herself hidden within them. Just her and the small lake, enjoying each other's presence.
Haseul breathes in and let's out a big exhale. She feels at peace. No one to bother her or ruin her mood.
No one to yell at her for making a mistake or being a failure. There's no one to make her cry and feel guilty about living.
She feels someone or something beside her but chooses to ignore it, hoping it attacks her.
"Hey pretty.." The person's gentle voice spoke. Her voice was like honey, so sweet and calm.
Haseul opens her eyes and meets Jinsoul's. The older's head is tilted and she smiles while looking at her.
Jinsoul is crouching down, her arms resting on her knees while she looks at the quiet girl.
Haseul feels a smile creep onto her face when she watches the taller take a seat next to her.
She wonders how Jinsoul had found her but leaves that question for another time. Right now, she wants to indulge on the moment with her.
They both stay like that for another hour or so, until it's dark enough to count the stars.
Jinsoul's the first to speak, breaking the silence.
"We should get going Haseul. It's pretty late." She brings a smile to her lips.
Haseul nods but doesn't move. She stays seated even when the older is already standing.
A chuckle.
Jinsoul reaches out and offers both of her hands for the girl to take. Haseul only accepts one and helps herself up.
As soon as she's on her feet, she feels herself being crushed. Arms wrapped around her shoulders as Jinsoul's head rests on them.
Haseul relaxes in the embrace and reciprocates the hug.
"I was so worried about you. Your mom seemed pissed when I showed up to your house. I was scared that you would do something stupid because of her.."
Her voice shook as she spoke. Tears threatened to fall but Jinsoul knew she had to stay strong.
She sniffled and pulled Haseul impossibly closer, taking in her warmth and comfort.
The shorter sighs and buries her face in Jinsoul's chest, already feeling tears stain her sweater.
"I'm sorry.." Is all she said.
She couldn't bring herself to say anything else. Haseul knew she wouldn't be able to say anything else. She was too scared to do so.
And she knew Jinsoul understood.
Haseul feels the older pull away and holds her by the shoulders, looking into her eyes.
Jinsoul smiles and takes her hand to wipe Haseul's tears away with a thumb. She stops to hold the girl's face in her hands.
It comes out as a whisper, "You're so beautiful."
A small kiss finds itself on Haseul's forehead and she can't help but chuckle.
"You're such a flirt." Haseul shakes her head.
The taller shrugs, "But you like it."
She smiles.
"But I like it."
Jinsoul leads her to her car and helps her inside.
They pull away from the small lake, Haseul glancing at it one more time. They would be back, she assumes.
And they're off.
Driving wherever they desire, trying to forget about their lives.
Haseul looks over at the driver's seat and sees a soft smile on Jinsoul's lips.
She takes a good, long look at the girl and knows she wants to be with her forever.
Because there's a sort of comfort in seeing Jinsoul's smile and she wouldn't want her to ever lose it.
—End.
