Book One: Air
"Get back here Zaz!"
The man laughed as he watched his husband chase after the small, three year old boy. His husband finally caught up to him and snatched him off the ground, peppering his face with kisses. "You pamper him too much, Cedric. One day he's going to have to rule the Fire Nation." The man said and his husband, Cedric rolled his eyes. "I know, Tom. But look at him! He doesn't even look like a fire bender! He's too innocent." Cedric stated sarcastically, walking towards the base of the throne where Tom sat cross-legged on the floor. Tom snorted.
"That's because he's a baby, love." He replied and Cedric scowled playfully at him.
He watched as Cedric sat down too, their son sitting in the middle of his lap, playing with the lapels of his shirt. "Azazel?" Tom called and the boy looked up, his pale green eyes blinking up at his father. The man grinned. "You really don't look like a fire bender, do you?" He chuckled, picking the boy up. Azazel grinned and spluttered, reaching up to Tom with small hands.
"You'll make a fine King one day, Son." He said proudly. He looked up at Cedric only to see that he was smiling right back at him. His own pale green eyes shining. Suddenly, something caught Cedric's attention and his face faltered. Tom rose an eyebrow as he followed his husband's gaze around the enormous, intricate throne room.
"Ced, what is it?" He asked quietly, pulling Azazel further into his lap. Cedric shuddered. "I-I don't know. Some thing's wrong with the earth. I can't place it." He whispered. The earth bender placed his hands flat on the ground and closed his eyes. Tom waited.
Suddenly, Cedric's eyes widened.
Everything happened all at once.
Tom flew a few feet into the air, his crown flying off his head as he clutched onto Azazel with his life.
An enormous stalagmite shot out of the ground followed by multiple geysers of water.
Tom lost sight of Cedric the minute he landed, feet first on the platform of fire he'd created which immediately disappeared into smoke.
"Cedric?!" He shouted over the noise of the earth and water. The stalagmite fell gracefully back into the ground and the water dissipated. Azazel began crying.
Two people stood a few feet away, wearing all black. Cedric stood before them, ready to fight.
"Guards!" Tom shouted. Nobody came.
"Lord Riddle! Surrender!" Shouted one of the benders. It was obvious he was talking to Cedric, seeing as they acted as if Tom and Azazel weren't even there despite the immense amount Azazel was crying.
"Who the hell are you and what are you doing here?!" Cedric shouted. Tom stood up with Azazel, watching with wide eyes.
"We're here for the Fire Lord!" One of them growled.
"There is no time, Albus! We must get rid of the child and only the child!" The other one shouted, clenching his fist. The earth abided and an enormous bolder shot out of the ground, ready to be used as a weapon. Tom stepped forward, furious.
"Leave my son alone and leave this Kingdom!" He screamed. A line of fire swept across the room from his feet. The water bender diverted it quickly. The earth bender spoke again.
"Surrender the boy to us and your husband will be spared." He said loudly, and Tom growled, standing up straight with his son still in his arms, sniffing.
"Who are you!" He shouted, his voice so powerful the palace shook.
The earth bender yelled and Tom was knocked off his feet, but he recovered quickly. Azazel however, flew out of his hands and into the air. Cedric dashed for their son. And so did the water bender. They collided in the air and fell. Tom ran and caught Azazel before he fell, but just as the little boy fell into his grasp a blood curdling cry echoed around the throne room.
Tom whipped around and his heart sank.
A long, thin stalagmite had erupted from the ground.
Straight through Cedric's heart...
Every sense drained out of Tom's body.
His heart stopped beating for a moment as complete silence took over the room.
All he felt was rage.
Tom screamed so loudly the windows shattered and fire burst out of every pore of his body. The men in black hid behind a solid wall of stone.
Tom's eyes raged with fire. His nose flaring. The flames engulfed him and his son like an army protecting their King.
He charged, using his feet and not his hands to shoot white hot lighting towards the two perpetrators. They dodged, but the water bender wasn't so lucky. A deadly bolt hit him in the chest and he fell, presumably unconscious.
"You killed my husband!" The Fire Lord roared, hounding on the earth bender with lighting engulfing his entire body. Shooting out in random directions. He ran straight for him and the man stood still in fear. His eyes wide as the raging ruler of the Fire Nation was about to kill him.
Tom yelled and jumped high into the air, about to strike.
Suddenly, he stopped, landed on the ground with a boom, facing the water bender who he had thought was unconscious.
Tom's eyes widened.
A few feet away from the man was a small bubble of gushing water.
His heart stopped...
Inside the water lay an unconscious baby.
"AZAZEL!"
Harry woke up with a start. Sweat covering his body. Tears in his eyes...
