hyunjin was out of breath as he slumped on the couch, hearing minho's approaching footsteps behind him.

"you brat" minho hissed, sneaking his arms under hyunjin's arms and yanking him up over the back rest, his head hanging upside down.

hyunjin might had left minho's phone under running water after the older male had threatened to call chan and tell him to get rubber bands on his way home after hyunjin had shoved his foot on minho's face while the older had searched for a tv controller (that hyunjin had sat on the whole time.) and hyunjin already had experience on how useful minho found rubber bands, discovering that though harmful, they actually left marks.

however, minho had eventually found the controller, chasing hyunjin with it around the house for good fifteen minutes until hyunjin couldn't run anymore, leading into the situation they were in now, hyunjin feeling unordinarily dizzy. if he was being honest he had been feeling quite terrible the whole day, just hoping it wouldn't get too bad to hide. especially from minho as the older was the last person hyunjin wanted to see him crumble.

"watch it, hwang hyunjin" minho threatened, the younger dancer feeling the blood rush down on his head.

"oh come on, you're not intimidating anyone" hyunjin tested, even if he knew he was in a losing position. there was just something oh so endearing in annoying the older and the tall brunette just couldn't resist the urge. even if he usually ended up getting his ass beaten, either figuratively or literally.

"yeah?" minho cocked his brow. "then how about we stick this up your ass and see if you're still down for acting like a total brat?"

hyunjin huffed, getting up before he'd start to feel dizzy because of the position. hiding the fact that he had been caught off guard by minho's words despite it not really surprising him, he merely looked away as he found a comfortable position to sit in, pressing his lips into a tight line.

"in your dreams."

"in that case i'll rather stay awake" minho scoffed, dropping the controller on hyunjin's lap as he climbed over the back rest to get comfortable on the couch. "move."

and it was really quiet for a while, only the sound of the clock ticking on the wall in the air. minho had leaned back, focusing on observing the tall brunette who stared at the wall across the room fully in his thoughts.

and minho took mental notes of some specific details, merely because that's what minho liked to do. rather than socializing with people he had taken interest in observing them from a distance, finding it fascinating how everyone had their own little habits they practised without noticing it by themselves. seungmin had once said he believed minho did it because it helped minho to bond with people without actually having to interact with them. according to seungmin it made minho feel less alone.

obviously minho had gotten just a little annoyed by the psychology major's opinion, telling him off because he certainly wasn't lonely. minho liked to rely on the difference between being alone and feeling lonely, figuring he was doing just fine by himself.

but still, minho couldn't help but to feel at ease noticing the way the younger dancer bit on his lower lip gently while in his thoughts, exactly the way minho had realized doing it after chan had once pointed it out. though where as hyunjin did it delicately, did minho often only realize it when he tasted blood in his mouth. but after all hyunjin wasn't at all like minho, that giving minho another sense of comfort as he finally looked up from hyunjin's lips, his brows furrowing in confusion as the reality hit him.

hyunjin had started crying.

minho observed the way hyunjin was blinking rapidly, not being able to stop the tears in the corners of his eyes. and his lips started to quiver and his whole body trembling harshly. and minho noticed how hyunjin was holding his own hands again, attempting to comfort himself. something was off, that much was obvious to minho if not because hyunjin had never cried in front of just minho then at least by the way the brunette wasn't just pathetically sniffling but actually starting to sweat, clearly having a hard time breathing.

and for some reason minho's first thought wasn't to insult the younger, his conscience reminding him of its existence. instead he felt a helpless, usually just walking away if someone was crying because minho certainly couldn't stand it. but he felt quilty for just sitting there, not doing anything to comfort the male.

but then he remembered something chan had said a while ago.

minho recalled faintly how he had been waiting for chan at a café for them to study together. however, the older had been terribly late, finally making his appearence twenty minutes late with hyunjin on his side.

and minho remembered how annoyed he had been, especially after a stressful week when he had just wanted to spend time with chan, definitely not hyunjin. but minho remembered how hyunjin hadn't said a word during the whole time, not even when minho had intentionally caused the younger to trip over his leg while bringing his coffee on the table, the hot drink spilling all over hyunjin's white shirt.

but afterwards hyunjin had disappeared, leaving him and chan finally alone. and minho remembered the disappointed look on chan's face as he told him the reason he had been late had been hyunjin getting a panic attack mid his call with chan, the older rushing to hyunjin's place instead that wasn't so far away from the café. afterwards he had convinced hyunjin to come with him so he wouldn't have to be alone as he could get back home easily if he started feeling unwell in the café.

though minho had been reluctant to listen, he did recall chan telling him that hyunjin had suffered from panic attacks for as long as chan had known him, becoming more and more stubborn in asking for help when time had passed. minho remembered shrugging it off, telling chan the information was unuseful to him, he would never help hyunjin even if the younger happened to ask him, which was obviously unlikely.

and it finally hit minho, the frown on his face deepening as he brought his gaze back to hyunjin who had curled up, rocking back and forth while holding onto a pillow with his knuckles turning white.

and minho couldn't ignore it, no matter how much he tried to think of the male getting on his nerves to the point minho had lost it completely. not even the thought of his phone possibly being broken because of hyunjin didn't make him mad like it should've done.

"hyunjin" minho called, slowly getting closer to hyunjin, trying to have a some sort of eyecontact with him.

"need help?"

and minho was met with hyunjin's eyes that flickered with fear, the younger grasping on the pillow harder, having a hard time focusing on minho.

"i-" hyunjin stammered. "c-chan hyung... he-"

"yeah?" minho remained calm, the way he thought he should.

"h-hugs me" hyunjin finally let out. and minho grimaced internally, having a short battle with himself before slowly bringing his hand on hyunjin's back, just then realizing how ragged his breathing was. it was worrying to minho.

and physical affection, especially hugging was something minho heavily disliked, avoiding it at all costs. but a voice inside minho's head screamed at him to suck it up and stop being so petty, which minho reluctantly ended up doing.

not wasting any more time minho wrapped his arms around hyunjin's trembling body, first loosely to test the waters and then tightly, pulling the brunette closer.

"just like that, breath for me" he spoke both to hyunjin and to himself, hesitating for a second before ending up just fully pulling the male on his lap, the pillow from hyunjin's hands dropping on the couch as the younger straddled minho with both his arms and legs instead, burying his face on minho's chest and collecting fistfuls of minho's hoodie in his hands.

minho, on the other hand focused on drawing circles on hyunjin's back, speaking this and that with a flat voice, his other hand instinctively finding its way on hyunjin's hair as he merely listened to his choked sobs.

and they were like that for a while, minho focused on observing the way hyunjin's cries slowly went down, his breathing becoming regular again. and at some point he was able to relax, releasing the fabric off his hands and letting his arms wrap themselves around minho's warm body as if that was the most natural thing to do. and minho didn't have the heart to push hyunjin away, figuring the taller male had to be exhausted. and he certainly was, his eyelids becoming heavy as he slowly drifted to sleep, actually feeling completely safe to do so for the first time in days. even if it was just because minho was right there and at that moment minho was ready to protect hyunjin from the world to let him rest.
