The twins were sitting on the couch when Carmen came in with ice for Miguel's ribs and Brooklyn's nose "Miggy, Brooke, why don't you tell me who did this? I'll call the school. They can protect you two." Carmen said. "It'll make things worse, Mama." Brooklyn stated. "Worse than this?" Carmen questioned. "Yes. If I just had more lessons, then maybe We'll-" Miguel started. "No!" Carmen cut him off. "It's not Sensei Lawrence's fault. I just.... I just wasn't ready, it would've been worse if Brooke didn't start beating the shit out of them." Miguel said. Brooklyn smiled at him, Carmen looked at Brooklyn like she was crazy, "No. No more karate." Carmen said.
Their grandma came in, "Carmen, what is the problem here? They found something they like to do." she said in Spanish. "Thank you" Brooklyn and Miguel muttered at the same time. "Look at them." Carmen said in Spanish. "I see them. What they need is practice right? Keep your hands up, protect your head." Their grandma replied back in Spanish. "Mama, this man is a bad influence." Carmen explained "He's not. You don't know him." Brooklyn defended. "I know he's a loser." Carmen said. "He is not a loser. If you knew him, you'd see he's a great man." Miguel and Brooklyn sat outside Johnny's apartment. When he came out the twins got up and walked over to him, "Hey sensei, mom says that we can't train with you anymore, but I had this idea that maybe if we went to the dojo before-" Miguel said but was cut off by Johnny, "You don't get it, kid. There is no dojo. I'm closing it up, it's over." "What about us? We... we need you." Brooklyn said. "I'm sorry kids, I gotta go." Johnny said walking away, tears came into Brooklyn's eyes. __________________________
"So that's it, no more karate?" Eva asked Miguel and Brooklyn while the five were in the library, "I guess so." Brooklyn said with clear disappointment in her voice, Eli noticed that and took her hand in his, she looked at him and smiled. "It's probably for the best. It was starting to boost your confidence." Demetri said. "Isn't that a good thing?" Eva asked.
"No. What has confidence ever gotten anybody except for a black eye and their backpack thrown in the trash?" Demetri stated. "Well, I thought it was cool when you beat Kyler's ass." Eli said looking Brooklyn. "Are you insane? Let me ask you, what is the best superpower anyone could have?" Demetri questioned. "Flying" Eva said. "Super strength" Miguel said. "Telekinesis" Brooklyn said. "Wrong. Invisibility. A distant second would be super speed to run away fast."
"Run away from who?" Kyler questioned as he came behind Brooklyn and Eli "Whom? It's the object of a preposition. Remember English class." Brucks corrected. Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "We were just leaving." Miguel said as he, Eva, Eli, Demetri got up to leave, but Brooklyn stayed put. Eli tugged on her arm but she stayed put. Kyler grabbed Eli and said, "Hey, where you going? Oh, look at this freak. Oh shit. What kind of girl would kiss this shit."
Brooklyn got up and shoved Kyler off Eli. "Leave him alone Kyler." "Right, his girlfriend would." Kyler said. Brooklyn slapped him, the whole room went silent, Kyler stopped remembering what Brooklyn did to them on halloween. Eli ran out with Brooklyn following.
When Brooklyn caught up with Eli she saw the tears in his eyes, she wiped the tears from his face and pulled him into a hug. Eli started sobbing, "Hey, it's ok Kyler's just an asshole with a big mouth and daddy issues." Brooklyn stated attempting to calm Eli down, he laughed at her words, she pulled him out of the hug he frowned at her doing so, but covered it up.
She wiped his tears once more as he started to calm down they sat their in comforting silence until Eli spoke up. "Thanks, you didn't have to follow me Kyler's right, I am a freak." Eli stated. Brooklyn knew no matter what she said he'd still feel like a freak, "You know what he's right you are a freak." "What?" Eli questioned surprised at her words, "But what, do you wanna be like everyone else, boring and bland?" Brooklyn stated, "I guess not." Eli answered, "Good." Brooklyn replied. ____________________
Brooklyn and Eli were walking out of school together when she heard a loud voice yell, "Miggy, Brooke" Brooklyn sighed and covered her face, embarrassed at her moms actions. Eli laughed at her, Brooklyn and Eli walked to the car hand in hand, she saw Miguel already in the car, she came up to the window with Eli. "I changed my shifts so we can go to the movies, and see that new Spider-Man"
She informed the twins, "Is it okay if Eli comes with us?" Brooklyn asked as Eli's eyes widened. "Of course!" Carmen said. Eli came out from behind Brooklyn, "Hi, i'm Eli" Eli said shyly. "Hello i'm Carmen, nice too meet you." she greeted, "Nice too meet you too." Eli said more confidently. "You're just trying to keep me and Brooke away from karate, can we just go home." Miguel said. "Okay we can go home." Carmen replied. Brooklyn looked at Eli, "Sorry, maybe we can next time." Brooklyn said. "Yeah." Eli replied, Brooklyn kissed his cheek and waved to him as she got in the car, he waved back as they drove off with a big smile and a red face. _______________________
Brooklyn and Miguel walked into the dojo, Johnny came out of his office, "Our mom says we can train again!" Brooklyn said excitedly. "She did?" Johnny questioned. "Yeah, I mean if we still have the dojo." Brooklyn said. "We do for now. But I need to know, are you ready to take things to the next level?" Johnny said. "Yes, Sensei." The twins replied in sync nodding. "You got your ass kicked because you didn't have any defense, so I'm gonna teach you the best defense that you can know. And the best defense... is more offense."
