We searched around the stations for weapons that we could use to defend ourselves. I kept wondering what was happening back in town and whether or not if they have discover our disappearance yet. I wasn’t sure how long it will be until they take notice. But it wasn’t when they will find out that I was worried about. It was my parents I was mostly worried. Right now I couldn’t worry so much about them. I had to concentrate on saving our town.
I have no idea how long it had been since we had made the escape, but I was hungry. There was a small kitchen in the station and I walked in there to search for something to eat.
There were half eaten cinnamon donuts in a box sitting on the desk. I didn’t dare touch it. I looked in the fridge that was almost empty. They must have cleared most of their stuff when they were told to leave. All there was in the fridge was a red apple and a ham and cheese sandwich, but I wasn’t daring to eat that either. The apple was covered in bruises and I didn’t want to know what the sandwich will smell or look like. I wonder what we are doing for food.
Sarah and Sophie walked into the room just as I closed the fridge door.
“Is there anything to eat?” Sarah asked.
I shook my head. “No, there’s nothing at all.”
“So what are we going to do for food?” my sister asked. “I’m starving.”
“I’m not sure yet.”
“Okay, everyone,” Kevin called out. “Could you all please come here?”
Sophie and Sarah walked out of the kitchen with me close behind them. We followed others into the open office where all of the desks were. Kevin stood on a desk that was closer to the kitchen so everyone could see him.
“Okay, I have found the weapons, but I think before we even get a hold of them, we should practice using them,” Kevin said once everyone was at the table. “We should train first with some toy guns and learn some surviving skills before we do anything else. We don’t want to rush in and then be taken down by the army all at once.”
Kevin had a point. We were all inexperience with guns and one wrong move could get us killed if we didn’t know what we were doing. I wasn’t even sure how long it would take us to train, but we needed to practice aiming and how to hold guns correctly, as well as learn how to use other weapons such as knives.
“What are we going to do for food?” Nelly asked.
“A group of us can go and find something to eat,” Kevin suggested. “But we will use this as a safe house so no one is allowed to leave this building unless I tell you to leave.”
Kevin chose Nelly, Seth, Keith and I to go with him, leaving Scott behind to take control of the rest of the group.
We walked out onto the quiet deserted street. I started heading to the supermarket that was about four blocks from the station when Kevin suggested that we get onto the roof top of a tall building that we could looked over into Lynnville. I was a little unsure about getting close to our town just in case we were to get caught, but Kevin convinced us that it would be safe.
We headed to Simpson Avenue which was full of apartment buildings. We headed to the five storey building that was the closest one to Lynnville, entering the building without being caught by any soldiers that could be guarding the border between the two towns.
Being careful not to be seen on top of the roof, we crouch near the edge. Kevin glanced through some binoculars which I think he swiped from the police station. From the roof you could see them running around, like they were looking for something and I couldn’t help wonder if they had taken notice that we were gone already.
