As soon as we got back to the hideout, Sophie and I were treated. The others soon arrived, helping out with what they could. Maddison had Sophie in the kitchen, trying to locate the bullet which wasn’t easy at all.
Scott fixed up my wrist. Nelly had to hold me still in case I decided to make a run for it. Corinne helped out Scott, grabbing things when he needed help. Zack stood nearby watching me, unsure what to do to help me. Scott wasn’t sure how bad the break was and we couldn’t get x-rays to see. He placed a cast on my wrist, hoping that he did the best he could and that it would be good enough to heal.
“Do you have anything for the pain?” I asked Scott once he finished fixing my arm.
Corinne looked in the first aid kit. “Nope, there’s nothing in here.”
“I will see if Maddison has some with her,” Nelly replied, leaving the room.
I stared at my wrist, feeling horrible and totally worthless with it being broken. How was I going to fight with a broken bone?
“It’s going to be fine,” Scott told me.
I shook my head. “It won’t be fine. I can’t help you guys fight.”
Scott patted my shoulder. “Hey, you will be able to help us.”
“How can I do that with a broken wrist?”
“There will be something for you to do, even if you aren’t shooting at anyone,” Corinne said.
The door opened to the bedroom we were sitting and Nelly walked back in.
“Bad news,” she replied. “Sophie took the last bit of the pain killers.”
I groaned and lay back on the bed. I’m seriously going to kill my sister when my wrist heals. “Is there any way that I could get something for the pain?”
No one answered me. I sat up when the door opened. Kevin walked in, walking over to Nelly and wrapping his arms around her waist.
“How’s the second patient?” Kevin wanted to know.
“Dying from pain,” I replied.
“We are out of pain killers,” Nelly told him.
I grabbed the pillow beside me of the double bed and placed it in my lap, resting my wrist on the pillow. “Is there any way that we can get a hold of more pain killers?”
Everyone glanced at me, unsure where we could get the drugs to help with the pain. Right now no one wanted to go outside. It was risky right now. Soldiers were probably roaming outside trying to find our hideout. A few helicopters had already flown by and Maddison wanted us to stay low until we were sure it was safe enough to come. We were only allowed to leave if it was an emergency. Right now there wasn’t so I guess I have to deal with the pain until I can get something for it.
Maddison walked in, checking to see if I was okay. I just nodded, not really in the mood to talk to anybody. Scott told her how I felt worthless now afraid I would be able to fight. She promised me she will find something for me to do even if it isn’t a lot.
“Listen, Abigail, I know that your sister took the last of the pain killers,” Maddison told me, “and I promised you that we will find some soon. Right now it’s a little risky for any of us to go outside. Soldiers are roaming about outside looking for us. Later even it’s safe I will get someone to head to the local chemist to get you something.
I nodded.
Blake came in and asked if we wanted to play a game of Pictionary. I didn’t want to at first, but then Nelly said I didn’t have to draw. All I had to do was join a team and helped out my team mates. Sophie was already sitting on the couch talking to Seth and Sarah. My sister acted like she hadn’t been shot and I knew I have to do the same otherwise I will just let my team down if I keep on being miserable.
