It’s pouring rain when I wake up in the morning. I figured we weren’t going to fight today, but Maddison still wanted us to fight even if it was raining. I hated walking through the water main. Because of the rain, there was more water in it and I was hoping it wouldn’t get too high that we couldn’t get through at all.
I was glad we found this plastic clear rain coats in a nearby shop because I really didn’t feel like being soak and wet right now. For me I had to make sure my cast didn’t get wet so we tied some plastic Glad wrap around it.
We had to be extra careful as we entered Lynnville. More soldiers were patrolling the streets. Maddison said that because of the rain they probably thought that we would hit them harder. I wasn’t exactly sure how they would think we would hit them harder in the rain than what we would in the dry, especially because they are the ones with the biggest weapons than us, but it still felt good that we might be powerful than them.
It was going to be hard to sneak through the streets because the patter of our feet in the puddles was going to give us away. Maddison advised us if it happens that we stay still until we were sure it was safe to move again.
Scott climbed out of the man hole first, keeping a close eye out on where the soldiers were. He ran off with one of the soldiers running after him. Not sure where he went, but I knew he will hide in a safe place from the soldiers. Kevin went next after giving Nelly a quick kiss before climbing out of the man hole. Blake and Seth followed after him, shooting at two soldiers that were nearby. The rest of us climbed out and scramble to safety before more soldiers arrived, which could be at any minute.
We split into groups and made our way down the street, hiding behind buildings, cars and other objects so none of the soldiers could spot us. We successfully sneak through the streets even when soldiers drove up in their jeeps.
Zack, Nelly, Kevin, Blake, Peyton and I decided to take the roof while the others were on the ground. We waited for Maddison’s signal to fire. We had to wait for awhile, watching soldiers on the street. A grenade flew in the air towards the soldiers and we ready ourselves.
The grenade exploded, sending debris everywhere. We duck and covered our heads in case any debris headed our way. Not many did and we quickly got into place to shoot. Pulling our triggers, bullets flew everywhere as we aimed at the soldiers, being careful not to shoot any residents or any of our team members from down below.
“Holy crap, guys move!” Blake suddenly screamed at us.
I turned just as rocket launcher was headed our way. We quickly moved away from the edge and headed towards the stairs. The launcher hit the building just as we reached the top of the stair case. The ground rumbled underneath us like an earthquake. Unable to stand on our feet, we stumble down the stairs one after another. I almost screamed when I felt a slight pain in my wrist, but I bit my lip so I couldn’t ourselves give away where we were in case they hear my scream and send another rocket launcher our way.
I wasn’t sure where the smoke was coming from, but I know it was coming from one of the floors below us. We weren’t sure how bad it was or where the rocket launcher had hit.
We get up, running down the stairs and covering up our mouths and noses so we couldn’t breathe in the smoke that filled the whole building. But we couldn’t get very far. The stairs ended on the third floor. Everything was on fire underneath us and it surprises me that the building hadn’t yet collapsed. But it will soon if we didn’t get out of here. I wasn’t sure how exactly we were going to get to the ground, but right now the roof was the only place we could go to.
“How are we going to get down?” Peyton asked.
“Look to see if there is a drain pipe we could climb down,” Kevin told us.
Being careful not to be seen, we peeked over the edges to see how we could get down. We weren’t sure how long the building will last until it collapses, and hopefully none of the soldiers will fire another rocket launcher at us.
Blake finds a way down in the alley way. We climb down the drain pipe with our weapons over our shoulders. My wrist ached as we climbed down, but I had to push the pain away. Nelly almost slips, but manages to keep her grip and carries on climbing down.
We make it to the ground safely and then hurry away from the building. We enter the chaotic street where soldiers are shooting at everyone. I spot Keith and Seth across the street, firing their guns and shooting some soldiers down. Kevin and Zack quickly push Peyton, Nelly and me behind a park car while Blake fired back at the soldiers. A jeep drive past us and we shoot the soldiers that were inside and out. I shoot the driver right in the head and he crashes into a park car opposite us.
“Guys, let’s move!” Blake tells us. He yells across the street at Keith and Seth to move as well.
We obey Blake and run, stopping occasionally to shoot behind us. Peyton suddenly trips and stumbles to the ground hard. Nelly and I helped her up, but we might as well have left her on the ground.
“Duck!” Kevin yelled.
He, Zack and Blake come up behind us and pushed us to the ground, hovering their bodies over us to protect us as an explosion goes off nearby. We keep down until we are sure it was safe enough to get up again. We run, helping Peyton who was limping.
Another jeep drove towards us, threatening to run us over. We quickly got out of the way and shoot at them. They ran their jeep into a building near us. We make a run for it. We make it back to the man hole and climbed down it. I suddenly slipped on the steel rail that is slippy from the rain. I tried to grab hold of the railing, but I didn’t grab it in time. Lucky Zack and Nelly are underneath me and they manage to catch me.
We started making our way down the tunnel when suddenly a gate comes down, separating me from the others. I try to break through the steel gate and tried to open it so I could be with my friends, but there was nothing to get it open with. The others also tried to get it open.
“It’s no use,” Kevin said. “You will have to go another way, Abigail.”
I panic about the idea of walking through the tunnels on my own. “What if I get lost?”
“You won’t get lost.”
“How did these gates get here?” Nelly asked. “They weren’t there before.”
Blake studied the gates. “It looks like they installed them. They must have found out how we were getting in and out of the town so they set this up so they could trap us.”
“Abigail, go and we will meet you back at the hideout,” Kevin replied.
I nodded, but I didn’t move straight away. Kevin and the others started to leave, all except Zack. He stood there, holding my hand, not wanting to let me go.
“Zack, go with the others,” I tried to pull away from him, but he was refusing to let go of my hand. “I will be fine, okay? I will meet up with you. I will find another way, okay?”
“Zack, come one,” Kevin called. “Let’s go.”
Zack let go of my hand just as we heard splashing coming from behind me as someone walked through the water. I thought it might have been Keith or Seth or some of the others, but when I turn around, I find two soldiers coming towards us.
“Abigail, run!”
As soon as I heard the words come out of his mouth, I forgot that the soldiers were behind me. It was the first time in the last forty four days since I heard Zack speak.
My friends yell out to me and I quickly snap myself out of the shock I was in. I turned to run, but I wasn’t quicker enough. I was grabbed around the waist. My friends screamed out my name. The second soldier aimed his gun at them and starts shooting. They quickly ran dodging the bullets.
I ram my elbow into the guy’s stomach. He wouldn’t let go. I do it harder and he let go of me. I make a run for it, but running through the water makes it harder to escape. I’m grabbed from behind from the same soldier again.
“Let go of me!” I screamed in Japanese.
The other soldier comes over to him. I kick him to keep him away from me. But the kicking doesn’t help at all. He knocks me in the back of the head with his weapon.
