Dedicated to Jennifer and also to Mitchell

We plan what we are going to do all afternoon. The plan was to sneak into town once it was dark. We found black clothes to dress up in so we could blend in with darkness, and hopefully not be seen. Keith had built a bomb a couple of days ago when I was captured so we were going to use it. Someone was going to sneak into the police station where Chico and his men were probably inside, laughing and discussing what their plans were going to be to bring us down. But tonight they were the ones who were going down. It was out turn to win.

Once it was sundown, we headed to the water main, walking into town. Nelly tells me she is excited about this fight, confident that this time we will win. Truthfully I didn’t have all of that confident about winning, but I knew we had to. We couldn’t let the Japanese with anymore. This was our country, not theirs.

Scott cheeks if it’s safe for us to climb out of the main hole. He called us out and climb out one by one. We hid in the shadows as we heard a jeep patrolling the streets. Once the jeep was gone we walked down the street towards the police station, being careful not to be seen. In my mind I could picture Chico’s face when he finds out that he is no longer winning. It makes me smile to know that we will be wiping that smirk off his face when we win.

We hid in a building across from the station. Everything seems still, like if the town was suddenly a ghost town. But we soon see another jeep driving by. Maddison goes over the plans one last time and then sends Keith, Sarah, Nelly and me over to the station. I didn’t want to go back in there, but Maddison suggests that I do. She reckons I would know the way around in there. I wasn’t sure if I would remember my way around here since most of the time everything is very dim.

We walked across the road and slip through the front door that is left unlock. We were now standing in the small waiting room with very few seats and two vending machines filled with soft drinks and snacks. There was a walkway to our left leading to the back where all of the officers were, but there was no way we would be able to get through there, not without knowing the code that you need to get in. Our only option was to go through the reception. The only thing we have to try and get past is the cameras.

“Do you think anyone is watching the video footage?” Sarah asked.

“If they are, I’m sure they would be asleep by now,” Keith said, which I have to agree with him since there is no way you could just sit all staring at the screen all day.

“Let’s just climb over the reception desk,” Nelly said.

I nodded. “Yeah, let’s do that. When we do, where are we placing the bomb?”

“It should be placed underneath Chico’s desk,” Nelly suggested. “That way when the bomb goes off at his desk where he would be sitting at, the son of a bitch will be blown to pieces until there is nothing left of him.”

We agreed with Nelly’s idea. We climbed over the reception desk and then I lead my friends down to the corridor to where Chico’s office is. No one is about except in the lunch room where we could hear the soldiers chatting and laughing away. We snuck quietly past the room and walked over to Chico’s office. He wasn’t in there. I wasn’t sure where he was. I didn’t see him in the lunch room. Perhaps he is in the bathroom.

Sarah and Keith walked into the office while Nelly and I stood guarding the door. I was terrified we were going to get caught, get shot right here. But I had to push that thought out of my mind because if I continue to think about it, it will happen. It took Keith several minutes to place the bomb under Chico’s desk.

“Okay, we have ten minutes to get out of here before this place blows,” Keith tells us.

We snuck back past the lunch room.
