June is the pride month. What does it even mean? Pride month means the month wherein we all are proud of being ourselves. It's rather special for the LQBTQ+ community because they have always been shamed because of their sexuality. Let's look at it like this- I am a female. I'm attracted to both males and females. What does it change about me? Absolutely nothing. This goes for everyone. You could be homosexual, heterosexual, pansexual, asexual, bisexual, transgender or even bicurious. But that does not change WHO you are. Your sexuality is a mere part of you. But it does NOT define who you are. You should be proud of who you are. You should flower into a beautiful person of your own. No one has the right to be ashamed because of their sexuality. Do you know WHY society shames you? It is because they aren't at peace with themselves. So they want a "high" which makes them feel good about themselves. And HOW do they get it? By shaming you, by shaming me, by shaming us. Homosexuality has been declared "legal" by the supreme court in India. But I have a question. WHY WAS IT "ILLEGAL" IN THE FIRST PLACE? How can you teach us who to love? How can you NOT allow us to love someone? Love is love. And it exists in beautiful, unique forms. I don't even understand the concept of "coming out" in the first place. It means you're supposed to tell the world you aren't straight. But, WHY again, DOES THE WORLD ASSUME YOU TO BE STRAIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE? WHY IS STRAIGHT THE DEFAULT? Why can't we just let people be? Why make a big issue of such a small thing. We must NEVER assume someone's sexual orientation. Who is the society to validate who we love? Some people think they are "modern". But again, what does being modern ACTUALLY mean? Our society doesn't even understand that. Being modern does NOT mean wearing a trouser with a crop top and being glued to phone. But being modern ACTUALLY means being open to new ideas. Being modern means accepting everyone. Being modern means being able to curb the stereotypes. Being modern means being able to mind your own business. Being modern means not shaming anyone on the basis of their sexual orientation. Be modern, not "modern". Learn to set examples and practice what you preach. Some people (like me) are still afraid to come out. And why? There are a lot of reasons behind that. First being, we don't know how our families will react. Talking about LGBTQ+ is still a taboo. What else can we even expect from a society that considers homosexuality a "mental disease" that can be "treated". But we should educate everyone about LGBTQ+ community and that it is NOT a disease. It is completely normal. It is NOT a sin. It is NOT a crime. It should be legally, and more importantly SOCIALLY accepted. But we shouldn't label ourselves. It is again important to remember that our sexuality is a mere part of us. It IS important but it does NOT define us. How can we even think of a Utopia without treating LGBTQ+ community equally first? We MUST learn not to make a ruckus out of someone's sexuality. This is normal. Pride parades should be held even more and EVERYBODY should join it no matter what their sexual orientation is because pride parades are for showing off how proud we are of ourselves. And we don't give a damn about the society's pathetic shit-show. If you love a woman, be proud of it, if you love a man, be proud of it. BUT DON'T FORGET TO LOVE YOURSELF FIRST. We must create a healthy society for our future generations where NO ONE is afraid to come and be themselves. Isn't this a society we all want? Let's work towards it then because true change starts from the mirror. We're all afraid of our parents' reactions', aren't we? But a parent who doesn't accept the fact that their children are more than mere shadows of their parents, that their children will have a faith of their own, that their children are not compelled to follow their footsteps, that their children will have a sexuality of their own shouldn't allowed to be a parent in the first place. I mean come on, I wouldn't want my children hiding their true selves from me. If I have kids, I am gonna teach them that EVERY sexuality is normal. This should be taught to EVERYONE. Even to school-going kids. We really need a society that doesn't have its brain in its knees. I hope this pathetic, homophobic excuse of a society grows a brain of its own. Let's hope that the world is gonna change and work towards a better tomorrow.
