Part 25

"Good late afternoon."

He said as his greeting.

*

The women either bowed or nodded to him, smiling when he came closer.

"Servant Tilly told us to smoke the fish. She is out with a few others to pick berries and more fern and onion if they can find it. She said you wanted to help us, so we are getting the fish ready. So we have more time to scavenge for herbs and such when we don't have to worry about food."

The one woman looked at the children who were sleeping by the fire.

"And we have something to snack on for the kids."

"It sounds like a very good day when it comes to the food, indeed. Thank you for getting to work on this," Eddy simply smiled at her as he nodded to show his respect and appreciation, "How are you feeling today?"

He kinda wanted to know if the parasites were dying down.

"We all feel bloated still. And uhm... We don't know if we should tell you that, but our leftovers from ... uhm, going into the bushes, are still wiggling. We don't see much improvement to be honest. But we know it will take a while, servant Tilly told as much."

Shiro laid on the ground and yawned. Eddy would do his thing and here he was safe, surrounded by the women. He laid his head on his paws and sighed.

"Yeah it will take some time, but it's going to be fine," Eddy found a spot to sit then of course sat down, he wanted to watch over them. He could of course use higher doses of fern but that would be lowkey poisoning them. Well, straight up poison.

The woman nodded and sat down as well, with some respectable distance between them.

"We know it will take a while, we know that. But we are happy as it is that we do not have to die or eat our children for now." She looked to the side and sighed. It was clear that she thought that Eddy would leave them and leave them behind - it was a fair assumption.

No one wanted to take them in, so why would the witch poison his tribe with them?

"It's going to be okay," Eddy spoke softly as he watched the woman stare forlornly in the distance. He wanted them to be okay but he would see, he would see. It was hard to tell anything about these people. He tried to think of what to say or what to do. He hoped the observation would help him through this.

The women forced a smile and nodded. "Yes witch. Someday we will be at peace."

It was clear she did not expect it to be when they were alive. Hope would destroy them if it was crushed once again. They hoped so long and so often, they didn't have the strength to do so more.

"We still thank you for your kindness, witch."

"It's my pleasure to try my best here," Eddy nodded to her, it was obviously a depressing subject for her, "So how did you end up in this village?"

He wondered if born, kidnapped or travelled here. He knew in his world with the ancient Mongols it was common for them to kidnap people's wives or women in general.

"I was born here, as we all were. This tribe is too weak to fight for women or land anymore. I ... But anyway. We should not talk about that depressing and dark thing anymore. When will you leave us, most esteemed witch?"
