Part 31
It took almost the whole day. Every woman wanted to go with Eddy alone, the rest of them were staying in the tent where it was deemed safe for them.
The men of the Yang tribe would make a wide berth around the women Eddy accompanied to the tents. Like Brett said, no one looked too long or even stared; no one tried to talk to them, nothing. They nodded to the pair in acknowledgement, but that was it.
The stew the men cooked up was brought once again in the tent. Neha was also there; she arrived in the late afternoon. She was way better at handling the women and calming them down. The tribe, now ten people more, set up a makeshift tent and the women moved in there immediately. They felt safer with Neha. In the meantime Brett and his men caught even more fish and smoked, grilled and preserved them. Almost every man took off his shirt because it was hard work. Brett brought a small cauldron to the tent Eddy occupied alone that night and some leftover bread.
When he went inside, it was dark already. The sun had set an hour ago and the last traces of dusk were gone too. Eddy had eaten with the women before, but Brett was busy the whole time. He would eat now.
Upon entering the tent his eyes immediately fell on Eddy.
"Good evening."
"Good evening my Khanzadeh," Eddy was lying on the bed, Brett's coat draping over him for warmth and because it smelled like the shorter male. Slowly he sat up so he could be better company to Brett, "How are you feeling after your long day, Brett?"
"Exhausted. We fished for probably eight hours straight. Thankfully the tribe will come tomorrow and the work will be much faster done then. And also they bring more salt and sugar to preserve the fish better. Would you mind if I eat real quick? I haven't gotten anything in between."
The Khanzadeh sat down and put a log into the fire, "Do you want some as well? I brought enough for two?"
"Of course I don't mind if you eat, you need to get your energy back up. I can eat some so you aren't eating alone," Eddy thought it would be rude not to when Brett brought some for both of them. He also thought that Brett was probably still trying to fatten him up.
And that thought would be correct. Even when the witch ate three meals a day, a fourth wouldn't hurt. Brett sat down by the fire and shared the food with Eddy, giving him a lot more fish to eat than he would eat. The sauce and the bread were fine as well for Brett. He needed to put on some winter-fat as well, but he was not as thin as the witch, so he would be fine.
"You will probably lose about two to three, sometimes four kilos in winter. You need to eat them beforehand and a bit more. Sometimes the winter is stronger and sometime longer than the year before. If you would lose four kilos or even five, you are near death, witch. It's not only because I would like to see more on you, it's about your survival."
Brett scraped with the last bit of bread the bottom of the cauldron clean and their meal was finished.
He licked his fingers clean as he eyed Eddy.
"I am sure I will gain some weight before then," Eddy actually wasn't sure actually since he had some troubles with weight gain. If only there was supernatural weight gain. It would make it easier for him and assure Brett that he wouldn't die during the winter from losing too much weight, "Try not to worry Brett."
"I always worry about you."
They went to bed after their short dinner, Brett was too beat to actually bathe one more time. He got around to wash himself at least with water infused with lemon balm. They crawled under the blankets and Brett kissed Eddy as soon as they were laying down.
