Today is like... The weirdest thing I've EVER done. Exchanging wedding vows with someone I've NEVER know or heard of. It's weird. It just is. But I have no other choice after all.
It's an arranged marriage by my parents.
The girl was just as confused as I was. Sophia Kim was it ? Don't get me wrong, she's pretty. Like REALLY pretty. But it's just weird.
We don't know each other and we've NEVER seen each other before. If it wasn't for our family's business, we'd never even see or know about each other.
The arranged marriage was really rushed and was a small event between families. She was really overwhelmed by that and I was too. Like, imagine yourself in our shoes.
Our parents LITERALLY had everything covered. They even said they've bought a house for us. We really couldn't do anything else than just agree and today's actually the second time I've seen her.
The event ended in the evening and we settled in the house they bought. A big one for a newly wed to be honest. It's AWKWARD to say that. I don't think I can even view a whole ass stranger as a WIFE.
She's a quiet type too... Gosh, out of all girls I could marry, I literally had to marry someone I don't even know about.
We tidied up the house for a bit and took a rest later on. Heck, we're not even sleeping in the same rooms.
Both of us are having dinner outside since that's what our parents wanted us to do so. We couldn't say no since they've also reserved a place for us. Somewhere fancy and we had to look formal too.
"I guess this was just overwhelming for you too huh" she spoke up
"Who wouldn't" I responded
"I wonder why they set us up" said the girl as she rested her chin onto the back of her hand, looking somewhere else
"Joshua Hong was it ?" she asked she turned to me
Honestly, she's really attractive. But I don't think she's MY type of girl
"Yeah, Joshua Hong. It's nice to meet you... Sophia...?" I tilted my head, feeling awkward
"It's nice to meet you too" she replied shortly
It was quiet. Of course it would. It's like hella awkward right now like why are we in this type of situation ?
"Are you upset ?" she suddenly asked
"Um... I don't know..." I replied as I avoided eye contact with her
"Why do you ask though" I asked
"Curious that's all. I mean... I'm sure you'd feel a bit upset to marry someone you don't even know" said Sophia as she was stirring the drink that she ordered earlier
Am I upset ? I don't know. I mean as long as you don't interfere with my life now, I don't think I even mind about this marriage
"I'm sure you have a life of your own and probably have a girlfriend" said Sophia
Is she maybe asking me to break up with her. I mean IF I have one.
"Why ? You want me to break up with her since we're MARRIED ?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Nah. Go on. I don't really care" said Sophia as she didn't really show any emotion
"I wouldn't even think we're married to tell the truth. It's just... Kinda absurd if you ask me. I have no rights to control your life either" she shrugged
"We're literally strangers" she added as she looked at me
"If you wouldn't interfere with my life, I won't interfere yours" said Sophia
That's actually a good deal though
"Why are you saying this though ?? Got a boyfriend ?" I asked
"Nope. I'm still single. I just, want to live my life the way it is" said Sophia
Someone as pretty as her ? Single ?
"You're kidding right ?" I asked
"I'm not" said Sophia
"Odd... You're pretty though" I said as I still couldn't believe my ears
"Thank you" she thanked me
"You're handsome. Like really handsome. I'm sure girls are head over heels with you" she chuckled
"Thanks...?" I tilted my head a bit. I don't know how to even react to that to be honest
"I feel like I'm being too formal and awkward, I'm sorry" she laughed softly
"I'm just not used to this type of situation" she sighed
"It's alright I guess ??? I mean this is the first time I've ever talked to someone like you. You're quiet bad at conversation too" I said
She gasped
"How rude" she frowned for a bit
"Let's start again then" she chuckled as she look at me
"I'm Sophia, 27 years old. You ?" she introduced herself
"Joshua, 30 years old" I introduced myself
"Ah, 3 years older than me. Not that much of a gap" she laughed
Both of us were chatting a lot. Basically just telling each other about our lives
"I heard you're the CEO of the agency your parents own" she smiled
"Yeah, just got promoted" I responded
"Guess I'll be your personal assistant sooner or later since that's what my parents would want me to be" she sighed
"Do you not want to ?" I asked
"I don't really mind, but knowing that my life has already been planned by others is kind of sad" she shrugged
Well she got a point for that
"On the bright side, I guess I'm not alone anymore" she laughed
"Though I don't think I can see you as a husband" she added
"I don't think I could too" I replied
"Then we don't have to" she chuckled
"Huh ?? What do you mean ?" I asked
"It's an arranged marriage and I only think that this marriage is kind of sealing a deal or something. I don't think they even care if we'd actually care about each other" said Sophia
"As long as we get along, we can even view ourselves as housemates. That's the only thing that they want" she added
"You seemed to know about it" I raised my eyebrow
"My mom told me about it" she smiled
"Well that kinda made sense. But why did we have to marry each other" I asked
"Who knows ?? Maybe just fulfilling what they wanted or something they promised before ??? Let's just let that be a secret. We can always get a divorce when we find someone that we truly have fallen for and they wouldn't mind if I'm not mistaken" said Sophia
Well that's convenient. If they aren't expecting much from this arranged marriage, then I don't think we'd have to mind then. I guess I can do what she have explained earlier.
"Sorry if I was too formal. I'm not the type to talk with people to be honest" she chuckled
"It's totally fine, I understand" I laughed
"Hope that we'd get to know each other well" she stated
"I hope so too"
