Little Serpent

Date: "I got something you two might wanna see."

We were in Serena, sitting around a table as Date pulled out a picture. It was a picture highlighting a woman's neck and collarbone with a familiar tattoo, he handed it to Kiryu as I had to lean over to take a closer look.

Kiryu: "What is it?"

Date: "They pulled a drowned female body out of the Tokyo Bay this morning."

Kiryu: "This tattoo..."

(L/n): "Isn't that..."

We both look at Haruka as she was asleep again, worried as the woman in the picture has the same flower tattoo Mizuki had in her bar.

Date: "The cause of death is from a contusion and shock due to blood loss. The body had concrete attached to make it sink... She was brutally tortured."

Kiryu: "Could it be Mizuki?"

Date: "Hard to say, but this tattoo... Isn't it the same one Mizuki had?"

Kiryu: "This... Right here, look closely." He points at the bottom of the tattoo at some kind of signature, "You see the small 'uta' character for 'song'?"

(L/n): "Yeah... Isn't that the signature of the old man who gave me my back tattoo?"

Kiryu: "Yes, this is the work of Utabori II. He puts his signature on all of his art."

Date: "So he's the one who did her ink?"

Kiryu: "Yeah, he did my back, too." He gets up holding on to the photo, "He works between Senryo Avenue and Pink Street, at the Ryujin Hall... If this woman in the picture is Mizuki... Haruka will be devastated. Let's not tell her until we know."

(L/n): "Yeah, no point giving her any unnecessary bad news before we even know ourselves."

He nods as we all get up and head towards the door.

Kiryu: "We're heading out."

(L/n): "Don't wait up!"

Reina: "See you later!"

I give a wave to her as we walk out. Date and Kiryu talked about the case from years ago that got Kiryu in prison before he and I headed off. Shooting your patriarch... Heard a few things about Dojima, he was very influential, one of the strongest families back in the day but that doesn't mean his likability was good. One older member in Kazama's family came from Dojima's after he died, saying he was tasked with bringing whatever woman they found pretty enough to bring back to his office whether she agreed or not. Made me sick to think about but I shoved that thought, in the yakuza world killing him was a stupid move but maybe Kiryu had a moral reason? Don't know... Probably wouldn't want to talk about it if I brought it up.  Kiryu lead the way when reaching the alleyway Utabori was at, walking in and bowing to the old man sitting at his desk so I did the same.

Kiryu: "It's been a while, sir."

(L/n): "Hello again, not sure if you remember me-"

Utabori: "The little leviathan, yes I remember." He smiles at me warmly before looking to Kiryu, "And if it isn't Kiryu."

Kiryu: "Yes, I made parole just the other day."

Utabori: "And then you rampaged through Sera's funeral." He gives a chuckle, "What can I do for you, need a touch up?"

Kiryu: "No..." He takes out the photo and hands it to him, "Do you know something about this?"

Utabori: "This design... It's the 'queen of the night.' It blooms only once a year on a single night."
