Mad Dog's Motto
I was in heaven as Ito massaged my back thoroughly, adding just enough pressure. I closed my eyes to rest up a little just as the phone in the front started to ring, Ito looked over at the clock and sighed.
Ito: "Excuse me, sir, the lady out front is on her break so I'll need to answer that, it'll just be a moment." I nod and keep my eyes closed, "Ah, falling asleep? Glad to see I'm doing good, I'll be right back!"
She walked away as I just laid there feeling relaxed, at least until I heard Majima hold in his cries of pain making me hold in any laugh I wanna let out before I heard them talk.
Makoto: "Oh sorry! Is my watch bothering you? It's... A treasure of mine, I've had it almost twenty years, I take good care of it. When the strap wore out I even got a new one for it. It's an old piece though so new colors don't really match it..."
Majima continued to say nothing. No complaints to be quiet and hurry up, no buttering her up so he seems interested, no nothing. He was quiet like he just wanted to listen.
Makoto: "I really liked the original design, it felt more sophisticated... To tell you the truth, I got it from someone who saved my life." Still nothing, but I felt the tension in the room from earlier suddenly fade, "Actually, there was a time when I was blind due to psychological reasons... That was when I met him. I was just a stranger caught in a big mess... But he protected me with his life, never even telling me his name. At the lowest point in my life... He pulled me back from the darkness. Thanks to him I even regained my vision, I got married, had a child... I'm always swamped, but life is great. Back then, I never would've imagined a future like this was possible for me... I'm really happy now."
I could almost see it, the look of happiness on Majima's face. Not the crazed one he'd have for battle but a genuine smile hearing this story. The mood in the room getting brighter.
Makoto: "I'm just so glad I didn't lose hope, that I found the will to keep going... But when we parted ways, I never got a chance to thank him for that. I've regretted it ever since... In fact, that's what led me back to working at this massage parlor, this is actually where I first met him and Sotenbori is a special town to me, full of memories of what time we had... So I thought if I stuck around and just led my life in these old haunts... Maybe I'd meet him again one more time. Meet him and finally get a chance to say thank you... Oh dear, I'm so sorry I put you through such a depressing story! Sorry, I'm extra chatty today for some reason, y'know not even my husband knows that story so it's our little secret, okay?"
I heard Majima give a little chuckle as Ito returned. Our massages continued as usual before the thirty minutes were up. Ito handed me a membership card and thanked me for coming, I nod and go to walk out with Majima until Makoto called out to him.
Makoto: "Excuse me, sir, have one of our membership cards, please." He didn't turn back fully but still grabbed it, "Um... We haven't met before, have we?"
He seemed to have paused before shaking his head no, giving her watch a glance before turning to walk out quickly.
Makoto: "U-Um! Are you feeling better at least, sir?"
Majima: "... Ya worked out some knots I've had for 18 years."
Makoto: "Thank you so much!"
He does turn back, only raising his hand to wave as we walked out, meeting the desk lady out thanking us for getting a massage and telling Majima that he was lucky as it was Makoto's last week. Majima sorta didn't take it well and asked when she was leaving. When getting an estimated date he walked off with me close behind.
