I'm not as fast as Barry.

My legs burned. I pushed on, running through the streets, feeling like my muscles would catch fire. I might not be as fast as Barry. The explosion of S.T.A.R. Labs that had created untold numbers of meta-humans had done something to me as well. Waking up from a medically induced coma brought new smells, new sounds. I hadn't needed glasses anymore as I could see much better than the human eye should be allowed. My skin was more resilient to cuts or burns and my bones were a little harder to break. I was built when I woke up, having never really been all that fit in my life. I could lift objects that doubled my weight easily. I could outrun anything I saw.

That was before I saw him. Barry Allen.
The fastest man alive.

I wasn't as fast as Barry but nothing could stop me from following in his footsteps. I want to protect our city from the other metas trying to destroy it. After all, if they turned this place to dust, I would be out of a playground. I wasn't about to let Barry have all the fun.

I never really knew the second Black Canary. We had worked together once. I followed a drug trafficker to a den outside of The Glades and needed back up. Barry let the green guy know since he was local. I actually had fun raiding the place with them. They weren't really as amused as I was.

Something was off though. The first two Canaries were dead. The second one had been all over the news.
In the middle of the street, dressed like a Disney villain, was none other than Laurel Lance. Barry stumbled. I didn't.

It wasn't the last time we would meet. We learned that her name was Black Siren. She was Laurel Lance, just of Earth-2. I never understood why Earth-2 seemed so inherently evil. (Maybe, it's the higher frequency vibrations. Too much chaotic energy just stored up in their evil brains.)

Nothing could stop me from fighting her every chance I got. I was at a disadvantage, at first. My highly tuned ears were much more sensitive to her sonic cries. Then, it became my power over her. I added a deafening feature to my headgear that would weaken her cry. I could hear her shout safely at any distance. If she was close enough, I could easily recoge the vibrations of her voice and which direction it came from.

In the same way, I could usually tell if Barry was close by. The sound of wind breaking over his face as he ran was always subtle but not enough that my trained ears couldn't pick it up.

I followed her while we were on a mission but nobody was paying attention. She had cornered me easily. I was sure it had been the end for me, pulling off my mask to face my death with pride.

Her breath caught in her throat, eyes wet as she blinked away the fear in them. She wasn't afraid of me, I knew that.
I didn't know what to do. Only another second passed by before a bolt of lightning tackled her.
Barry practically shook as he rushed to me, begging to know that I was okay. His eyes and panicked voice both full with concern. I answered yes. I couldn't help but want to scorn him. To tell him that I would have been okay even without his help, but it wouldn't have been believable.

Siren never did try to hurt me. After unmasking myself she had vanished yet again. Only showing up to cause trouble. She never seemed to settle in anywhere. I ran into her a lot. She had a vigilante-like habit of beating up predators outside of sleazy locations.
I had caught her more than a handful of times, alone. Hearing her calls, from even miles away at times, usually brought me running. Often I was too late. I'm not as fast as Barry. Sometimes, I would have enough time to catch her in the act. Throw her off guard by simply announcing my presence, sending her running back to where she hides.
She never attempted to kill me or even hurt me. She could have. She had more than one or two chances to.
