ASHER- OUTSIDE THE CAFÉ

Lacey was in trouble. The Fates had predicted it. Asher had rushed there, making it there just as the mist had begun circling her. Asher shoved her into his waiting Ford Explorer, happy he had had the foresight to disable the lock system. She fought and kicked and screamed, but he knew it would be okay. After all, he was an angel, right? It wasn’t until the mist began entering his airways, seeping into his bloodstream, that he realized this was a setup.

The mist had never been intended for Lacey. It was holy mist. It was intended for him. It snapped the wings off of his back. Asher let out a piercing scream. His wings were gone. Even when he was a simple messenger angel, he had had his wings. He fell to the ground, praying that Lacey wouldn’t be able to see him.

Asher put the pieces together just as the pain became truly agonizing. This was his punishment for loving Lacey. He had known it was against the rules to love too much, but this was the end of his career. The end of him. If they weren’t killing him, they were most likely doing something much worse than that. The mist slowly began to seep away, and Asher panted, happy that the excruciating pain was over. On his hands and knees, the first thing he saw was his hands. Or rather, his paws. They were furry and clawed, with razor sharp talons protruding, almost as if he was a cross between a bear and an eagle. Asher ran away as quickly as he could, hoping Lacey hadn’t seen what had become of him. He was a beast.
