Theodora Raeken never expected much from life, when she was younger she thought she would die before she reached double digits. Her childhood wasn't filled with much happiness or love, her parents seemed to hate her since she became ill and had to spend a bit of time in the hospital. Before all of that however, they still didn't treat her as good as her older sister, Tara.
Tara was the perfect child to them. She was a social butterfly who was loved by everyone who met her and she was kind.Thea on the other hand, didn't particularly like people all that much; she couldn't deal with large crowds of people surrounding her, and she was sarcastically witty so they didn't like her much in return. Thea was usually smarter than most people in a room, even when she was a child, and she liked to let people know it. Especially since she developed asthma and lung problems, Thea started putting up her walls so she could protect herself so she lashed out at the people around her.
The only people that seemed to care at all for her, were her best friends at the time, Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski and her sister Tara. Tara always tried to be there for Thea and be kind to her, but with her being a few years older, she was always be spending time with her friends; leaving Thea to the mercy of their parents who loved to punish their youngest child with the claims that they were fixing her and making her better.
Her parents made it clear to her that they didn't love her, or even like her, for that matter. She'd heard them once talking about how they knew there was something wrong with her and she was messed up and she'd originally thought they were talking about all the problems she had with her breathing difficulties but when she was older and thought back to that time, she'd realised that when she heard that was after she'd been visited by the Dread Doctor's a few times, so they were likely talking about her mental state.
The first time the Dread Doctor's snatched Thea from her bedroom was when she was seven. She was terrified for the many first visits and abductions that happened but her family didn't believe her when she told them and after that, Tara distanced herself from Thea and started looking at her with fear and distrust. Thea heard the whispers in her own home saying that she was crazy and just wanted attention but she ignored them. After that, she stopped fearing the Doctors and started listening to what they were telling her about how they could give her a better life. A life that she deserved. She still never went to them willingly even when she learned where they were hiding, she just couldn't let herself go go them. So she just let them take her and do whatever experiments they needed to do on her body.
Scott and Stiles were the only bright points in her life that kept her from going to find the Doctors willingly. She thought that as long as she had Scott and Stiles, that she could handle her families abuse and neglect, it wasn't like she was ever hurt too severely anyway.
So, when she was betrayed by the only two people she loved she decided that it would be best if she stopped caring about other people seeing as they couldn't even give her that curtesy back. Scott and Stiles betraying her hurt her more than she expected. So when that happened, Thea went to the Dread Doctors willingly for the first time. She sought them out and she listened to their explanations of how they would make her strong and no longer weak or powerless.
Thea's 9th birthday passed and her lungs and breathing issues got worse. The Dread Doctor's gave her a location to meet in the woods one night. It was the coldest night in the year and when she arrived in the woods near the bridge she didn't understand why she was there. She was going to leave, thinking she'd made a wrong turn in the woods but then she heard the voice calling out. Thea approached the bridge and when she looked down, she saw a head of long raven hair like her own sat in the river below.
Thea froze in that situation unsure what she could do. But then she was surrounded by the Doctors and they told her that there was nothing she could do to save Tara. In that moment she believed them. She was nine years old, how could she save her big sister who was already injured and freezing to death.
The Doctors told Thea that Tara wanted her to have her heart so she could live when Tara herself couldn't."Why should both Raeken children die if one could survive?"
