CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
TENSION RISING

The boy they'd found being beaten in the basement was named Alec, and he was fifteen nearly sixteen. To Thea's annoyance, the boy had seemed to develop an attachment to her and he wouldn't leave her side. It had been revealed that Monroe had found Alec and his pack, killed most of them but Alec had escaped.

Melissa was ever so happy to have another house guest, Alec taking Scott's bed whilst the alpha slept on the floor. Thea felt guilty about that, seeing as she was still sneaking out the window at night to sleep in her truck before she snuck back in.

The rest of the pack hadn't been told about Alec yet to prevent the boy from being overwhelmed. Scott had told his supernatural story to Alec to get him updated with all that is happening now and why Monroe went after him and his pack.

Thea, Scott and Alec were sat around the kitchen table as Melissa made them breakfast. Argent had left early to inform Derek of recent updates with the new beta.

"Where were you last night?" Alec asked.

Thea didn't know who he was talking to as he was watching Melissa cook, but then he poked her.

"Thea? Where did you go last night?" He repeated.

"What do you mean? I was here." She said.

"I had a nightmare. Came into your room to talk but you were gone." Alec explained innocently.

Shit.

Thea knew it would eventually come out but she'd hoped she'd have dealt with her shit on her own and get it under control before anyone found out. She looked to Scott with pleading eyes. "Don't tell Liam."

Scott looked at her so knowingly that she felt like a fool for thinking that she could hide something from him again. His lips twitched. "Don't tell Liam that you're still sleeping in your truck on our drive."

Thea blinked. "It's progress." She said, a quote she'd heard Stiles use a lot.

"You sleep in your truck?" Alec asked, looking puzzled. "Why?"

"Because I'm a freak." Thea said, looking Alec in the eyes until he looked away unsure about what happened.

"Because she's still learning." Scott corrected. "Change is hard and it takes time, I know that. It's not something we can control."

"Talking about control... I still need a bit of help some full moons." Alec admitted, scratching the back of his head.

Scott looked pleased at the admission. Thea realised she'd kind of taken over with Liam's control, and here would be another opportunity for Scott to help a beta.

"That's fine. I can—"

Alec interrupted Scott before he could finish. "I want Thea. To help."

Thea groaned. "Why me? Scott's the alpha."

"Yeah, and he's great." Alec said, looking over at Scott with a smile in apology. "But from what I've heard, you're clearly the control expert."

"Me?" Thea scoffed. "Expert of control? Where on earth did you get that idea from?"

"I dunno." Alec shrugged. "Just Scott made it seem like you've never lost control or anything on the full moon."

Thea sighed. Clearly, the whole chimera thing wasn't all to easy for the young beta to understand. "Did Scott happen to mention that I'm not a werewolf?"

Alec beamed. "Yeah, he said you're some kind of hybrid. That's so cool."

What's wrong with this kid? Thea thought to herself as she shook her head, looking to Scott for any idea what the betas thought process was.
