20.

I got home as I found my Mom and Dad causally watching TV in the family room. I burst the front door open as I said ‘I’m home’ as the unsatisfied curiosity in myself rushed throughout my veins but I have to conceal it. I rushed to the first story bathroom to fix my face a little bit before I met my parents. I breathed in as I positioned myself in a large couch in between my parents and join them for like 10 minutes before I started to speak.

“Mom, Dad. I actually just went to the Hemmings’ house…” I spoke softly avoiding any kind of emotional trouble I would cause, but it turned out different than I expected.

“Hazel, what did I tell you about Luke?!” My Dad suddenly glared at me.

“Dad, I need you to listen to me first,” I demanded him to calm down until I finished my story. I told them what Mrs. Hemmings said about I couldn’t go there anymore and the other stuffs like Luke had already left for the UK.

“Dad, Mom do you have any idea of what actually happens here? Please tell me, I need to know. It’s like everyone is hiding something from me. I need to know the truth!” I insisted them on telling me what happened behind all of these things. I knew it has something to do with Luke’s leaving, and Mrs. Hemmings’ objection of me being in their house.

“Hazel, you knew everything.” My Dad tried to lie to me, but I could see it in his eyes that he was lying.

“No, Dad! What happened between our family and the Hemmings? You were once best friend remember?” I snapped furiously trying to reveal the truth.

My Dad shot a look at my Mom who nodded doubtfully as she started to speak.

“Hazel, I don’t know where to start,” She sighed. “Remember when you were about 5 years old and we lived in a small rented apartment, the day we lost our first house?”

“I guess I do, yeah.” I nodded as I tried so hard to remember all the details I was so little back then.

“Well, I don’t know how to say this,” My Mom stopped as she let my Dad explain it to me instead. “It was all because of Luke’s Dad.” My Dad continued.

“What? I-I’m sorry I had no idea at all,” I sat there weakly as if the truth slowly came out from my Dad’s mouth. He kept revealing the truth, fulfilling my curiosity, as he made me stay there in a complete silence, drowning in my thoughts. From the very first thing until how he found out that Luke is actually ‘the Hemmings’ son’.

“Now, do you understand why you should stay away from the Hemmings?” He asked to end his explanation.

“I don’t get it. Why can’t you just forgive him and let it go?!” I asked him furiously

“Because I don’t want your life to be ruined by the Hemmings!” He said as he blew up, couldn’t contain himself anymore.

“That’s just it? Dad, Luke is not his father!” I defended my opinion.

“But he is the Hemmings, and I’m not letting my daughter’s life revolve around another Hemmings! Besides you have a nice boyfriend! I don’t see a reason why you should chat on him.”

“Dad, please you never really like Patrick.” I scoffed. “And you cannot be involved in my love life because it’s my entire decision to pick whom I going to be with!”

“Yes, I can, you’re my daughter I don’t want you to be with someone who’s not good for you.”

“Stay out of my private life, would you please?!” I demanded him to do so.
