You were never meant to be a hero; not with your quirk at least. Dissolution prevents you from being hurt by all types of attacks, especially from other quirks. It gives you the ability to stop quirks from affecting you. Pretty sweet, huh? Well, it's a strong defense but is useless in all practicality. Nonetheless, somehow you managed to get into the hero course at UA, the top hero school in the country.

You continuously struggled in class 1-B, not physically advanced enough to keep up with your other classmates and their quirks. You were frustrated that you weren't enough even with your extra training you had been doing. No matter what you did, you always seemed to be two steps behind the others. There were many times you felt like screaming and crying because you just couldn't hold your own.

You wanted to give up but you didn't simply out of spite. You wanted nothing more than to prove to others that you deserved to be seen too, just as much as class 1-A. Well, maybe not as much, but you definitely wanted to feel seen. You had begun to become influenced by Monoma and his crazy rants. He was right, class 1-B should be recognised more than class 1-A, who were troublemakers.

You were training, like usual, by running around the school grounds. You wanted to increase your endurance. Unlike most others, you couldn't work on improving your quirk; It wasnt one that could be used within a range. All you could really do was get stronger yourself.

As you turned the corner, you saw one of your classmates, Monoma. You slowed down as you neared him.

"(y/n), what are you doing out so late?" He asked, crossing his arms as a crisp breeze crossed you two.

"I'm training to get stronger." You answered matter-of-factly.

"What's the point of doing that? You're already the strongest of the entire class." He had a look of confusion on his face.

"Because I'm not strong enough." You answered, still shocked by his words. Was it true, were you really the strongest of the class?

"Why do you need to be stronger?" He followed up with a question.

"I want to keep up with everyone else." You revealed with a disappointed sigh. Monoma burst out laughing, making you shift uncomfortably. The sudden laughing and unexpected reaction from him scared you and made your heart sink. Why was he laughing at you?

His laugh, his real one, was much different than the rest of the class heard. You were the only one to hear it, you were special in that way. His laugh sounded like it came straight from his heart as he threw his head back with his eyes closed.

"You're serious?" He asked, wiping away the tears in his eyes.

"Yes, of course I am!" You bit your lip in frustration. You were on the verge of tears, as you usually were when on your nightly runs.

"You don't need to, you're already keeping up just fine. Neither of us can even compete with class 1-A no matter how hard we try. Wanna know why?" He asked, sitting down on the curb. You decided to sit next to him in order to listen to what he had to say.

"Why, Neito-san?" You asked, looking over at him.

"Because we aren't the main characters. I mean have you seen the other class? We can run as fast and as hard as we want but we'll always be left behind, especially you and me. Our quirks are nothing, especially if we want to be heroes." He bitterly laughed, no humour behind it. His laugh made you so incredibly sad. If Neito-san, someone who was always trying to brag he was better than them didn't truly believe he was better, then how could you believe it too?

"That's not true at all, when I first saw your quirk, I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. It still amazes me every time I see it. Your quirk is one of the best ones, like, ever!" You gawked, unable to see how he could possibly think of himself as not good enough.

"Thanks." He turned to look at you with a soft expression, a smile playing on the corners of his lips.

"We're the main characters in our own story for a reason, but we're not good enough to be the main characters in this story of UA." He sighed, his face falling once more.

"Neito-san, let's keep going. Lets refuse to be the side characters anymore, we'll go beyond that-- plus ultra right?" You smiled widely as you stood up and held out your hand to him.

He had a surprised expression on his face, wide eyes and agape mouth. He suddenly smiled and closed his eyes, taking your hand. You pulled him up, but your force was too much and he stumbled into you. His hands rested on your waist as he steadied both you and himself. You two stared into each other's eyes a bit too long. You pulled away as he cleared his throat.

"Just don't cry next time, (y/n)-chan." He gave a sly smile as his entire demeanour shifted. He was back to being his carefree self.

"I wasnt crying!" You protested, wiping your eyes furiously, praying they weren't watery.

"It's okay, you're still pretty when you cry." He laughed. Your face quickly went hot and flush.

"Don't say things like that!" You squeaked as you shook your head and waved your hands in protest.

Monoma laughed at you as he could only admire you. He admired how strong and determined you were. No one else shone as bright as you, he wondered how you couldn't notice it. But it makes sense that the sun wouldn't know it was the center of the universe brcause something else was the center of it's universe.
